horizontal split screen for gameplay reasons I would guess. In short, its more important to see enemies/objects "around you", than what is below/above you.

Vertical split screen would have made the game a lot harder to play.

Either way, this is pretty cool. If only it had online, co-op modes...

man, i can only imagine how fun it would be to play as jack online vs like 9 other jacks in a big fight. it would be great, but im not getting my hopes up
