i totally agree with you nojustno...i was looking into the higher model 285....it was way too much...found one at a good price on newegg...$359..i forget which make*....looked up the performance...it was good for a single card...awesome video card...then i saw that you can get 2 of ATI HD3850 at $71.99 each....

you can go on www.tomshardware.com they do alot of bench marking on video cards...you can see that the 2 ati in crossfire outperforms that gt285...

don't get me wrong...that card is great...it's just not worth the money

FYI, capacitor lifetime is rated for 5000 hours at maximum temperature and maximum voltage applied.  For every 10 degrees cooler the lifetime doubles and I don't recall the way to correlate applied voltage to lifetime right now, but it is similar in the doubling vs % of maximum voltage.

EDIT: Also eletectrolytic capacitors don't degrade when unpowered, infact they tend to recover (although slightly).  The other note to make is the rated lifetime is just a rating at which point the capacitance of the cap falls below its rated capictance tolerance.  So in all electrolytic capacitor lifetime ratings, the failure is never a catastrophic one because electrolytic capacitors fail open, and thus just increase the likelhood of crashing in power supply applications.

Pointless. This is nothing but a new means of trying to be super high end for super high end money. It's like those overclocked cards for $50 or more bucks that offer 2-3 more frames per second.

You'd gain very little on that card over the base model but you'll pay much more.

It'd be a waste of money for most gamers I imagine. 1792MB is crazy overkill.

Waste of money. That amount of RAM will only do good if you run max AA at 2500x1600 res.

Crysis with 4xAA at 1900x1200 resolution and over uses around 1300 MB, so it should work fine now.
