impressive, might buy now
It's not hard to understand why people would want the freedom to play the game like they want. That's what you don't get with a rail shooter.
FFS. That's the last time I have faith in EA.
On rails shooters are fun, but we don't need a tonne of them just like we don't need a tonne of Kart racers or mini-game collections.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

uhm, unlike FPS and TPS you mean?!? They've been done much more often than Arcade shooters. And calling them pointing and clicking makes me show you this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YePLMI9pu4 And since the original didn't exactly meet EA's demands it's quite logical that they try something different. Good games are good games, no matter the genre and from the trailer and the fact EA Redwood is making it I'm expecting a very good game. This is only bad for the people who aren't looking forward to the horror aspects of the game. After reading that interview it seems that the script will be written for some really shocking, chilling moments which a lot of horror games are missing..

The third person shooter thing hasn't been done on the Wii, except for a 5 year old GameCube port. After RE4 on Wii I think everyone has been craving a similiar type game, and after Capcom seemed resigned to the idea Dead Space was the hope to take that pedestal I guess.
I just don't see how much further you can take the on-rails thing, will this honestly offer anything that RE:UC or HOTD haven't? I dunno, I've never been a fan of the genre, as I said, I want the freedom and exploration, and a better feeling of where you actually are, the scale etc.
Well I think Capcom will have an exclusive third person RE for all that don't like this news around the holidays next year.
What the genre needs is a good injection of innovation.. Will this game provide that? Perhaps.. But I think it needs to be on the scale of what Galaxy did to platforming.. Something truely built for the Wii and feels very natural to do..
If not, I'm sure fans of the genre will love this and as I said before, done right this will actually scare you unlike many games that say they're horror..

After seeing that Xbox video of the original Dead Space before it moved to the HD formats we know what the Wii could do, instead the Wii gets this... |
Totally agree with this. Its simply a board decision, REUC makes money so we are doing On rails shooter too. Its dismal in its outlook for FPS or 3rd person shooters on Wii. Absolutely no confidence in the Wii demographic, thats all this shows.
But speaking from a core lacking perspective, cool. It looks really nice
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
I've been saying that Capcom was going to make a Wii RE game on the RE4 engine forever, but I'm starting to lose faith. If we don't see an announcement by E3 this year, I just don't know.
I can't help feeling let down, i was seriously hoping for a tps Dead Space game for the Wii. On rails is fun, but it will most probably be ultra short.
Well, here's hoping for a better tommorow..
If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...
Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.
Wow I am really disappointed by this.
Light-gun games are great and all but the Wii could have done with a new AAA third-person horror game.
It just goes to show that publishers still don't get the Wii I guess.

I think I'm going to revive this thread when it comes out to rave reviews
