Forums - PC - Is this the future?

I'm not as tech saavy as I'd like to be especially when it comes to PC stuff. So I don't know if this is cool or cheezy to the real PC heads but I imagine that there would be someone who found this interesting.

No that won't be the future. That will be option for some not so tech saavy ppl.

Some see it as the future, I for one just see it as an option in it's current form, if it drops the keyboard/mouce interface for something more intuitive that everyone could access as quickly as they could using the TV remote then having all the practical options needed on the TV itself in less than 8 buttons or in an easy to get to way. That would be the future to me at that point.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I can imagine this as a good option for someone who'll only browse and watch movies on their computer, aside from that it will grow old too quickly.

The multimedia aspect of it is the only really worthwhile thing. It's still easily achievable with a normal pc + tv, or one of those media RAID boxes.

I actually had a pretty good setup before switching to the PS3+ media server handling this - had mapped a Logitech wireless controller for launching and controlling Zoomplayer. And since that one allowed for easy browsing and played whatever was thrown at it, it got the job done.

Not the future per say as in taking over both markets but this kind of convergence will become more common.

I checked out their products page and I'm very impressed with how affordable the products are. If it allows you to upgrade the CPU and HDD (they say you can upgrade the TV tuner/graphics card on your own) then I may give it some serious consideration.

Do it yourself with an old computer and MythTV. It won't even cost money (except for the TV tuner hardware). That product isn't revolutionary; it just brings it to the mass market.

But that would be an old computer, not a current computer, and I don't have a spare 42" touchscreen 1080p HDTV with built in BR drive with enough chassis capacity to impregnate with said old computer.

It needs a different interface and something like a Wii-remote.

That wasn't aimed at you specifically. Obviously if you need the hardware and they offer the best deal you should buy from them. Does touchscreen really add that much value? Most people who would use this already have a normal HDTV.

Pretty much this, it's all about the interface now for where we go.  This goes back to something many gamers have failed to realize about why the Wii is such a big deal even to them.  The Wii has started the next big tech war/arms race in the interface hardware market and interface technologies have started competing and evolving.  It's only a matter of time at this point before someone hits on the next "big thing".

In the current incarnation we see here this is not the future, but it might be the first step towards the next required technology for every home.  I think the most obvious advancement from here is into the realm of camera input where hand gestures are picked up and translated as input.  But the long term interface improvement is going to be direct brain input, it will be broad control at first and it won't go big until we get to the point where you can at least simulate the modern interface adequately (modern for then, not now).
