As much as you are correct in saying that not all will, it's inevitable that some will. If GT5 does not ship as a better-reviewed game than Forza 3, then it may see some sales lost to a game for a system that's half the price. Unless you assume that the 10 million GT5 owners are already owning PS3s.

Key word: Majority. What kind of majority are we talking about? 51%? 70%? Even if 90% take GT5 over FM3 due to price concerns of investing in a PS3, then there would be a few losses of software due to FM3.

Also, if these statements weren't true, why did Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 exhibit such inferior sales to the PS2 versions? Yes, I know it's multi-plat, but I think that, given VERY similar games, we may see some cross-over for racing enthusiasts.

Funny enough I read a thread today where GT5 has been shown to Sony Japan, SCE and they were shocked about how much the game has progressed. Also some serious things happening with PD so cannot wait to see what that is, sadly he guy is under NDA but he said latest E3 it will all be shown.

GT5 has simply had more time, budget and resourses compared to what Forza 3 will have (least I would think so :/) and quality wise I will be very shocked to see Forza 3 come close to GT5. Graphically it will not come close, gameplay we shall see. I say graphically simply due to PD having much more time to made models and improve graphics, Turn 10 will not have had that time.

And once again you start with the price of the 360, it's actually funny to watch a 360 fan such as yourself constantly bring up the price of the console. Toe to toe Forza 3 would stand no chance against GT5, good to see people still understand the Forza franchise is nothing compared to GT.

GT might have the better graphics, but Forza has the better customization and physics, and that is what you buy a racing sim for.

Well, I'll predict about -3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716 copies of Forza 3 sold, and 99999999999999999999 for Gran Turismo 5.

On a more serious note:

GT5 = 8-8.5 million
FM3 = 3.5-4 million

This game is definitely going to be big. That being said it will still be the lowest selling GT game. But 8 million is not bad for any game. I don't believe it will reach 9 million though. On HD consoles, the only game that will have better lifetime sales is Halo 3.

GT5 will sell i think 6 million at the least! forza 3 probably 2-3 million.

Gran turismo is like the one of the biggest selling games ever isnt it? GT5 could even be the best selling game ever out of ps3 and 360.

I think it was FishyJoe's or Mrstickball that said Forza 2 sold around 2 million before bundling. There are quite a lot more X360's now than in 2007 and there isn't much competition: on the 360, the only sim-like racer besides Forza is Race Pro. So I'm going to say Forza Motorsport 3 will do at least 2,5 million on its own.

About GT5? Well, it'll be massive. It's Playstation's Halo, for fucks sake. 25% attach rate at the bare minimum - with the current ps3 sell-through, that's 5 million units. Besides, GT fans are thirsty - check this:

GT4 release: december, 2004
Forza 1 release: may, 2005
Forza 2 release: may, 2007
Forza 3 release: sometime in 2009
GT5 release: TBA

GT5 will be huge - not LBP huge, I mean reeeeaaaalllyyyyy huge. The glorified demo they released in december 2007 sold almost 3 million units. GT5 will do that first week.

Agreed, the people saying 15 million are more retarded then crazy but probably a touch of both.  GT5 will not do Mario Kart Wii numbers but I do expect an attach rate similar to that game. So if GT5 has an attach rate like Mario Kart Wii it would not reach 10 million now but of course install base in constantly increasing.
