Personally I consider any RPG scores at 8 or over to be surprising. They generally get slammed pretty hard. I remember getting into the game magazine scene on the PS1 and seeing RPGs I liked repeatedly getting slammed, one particular case being SaGa Frontier. I thought the game was pretty awesome when I discovered, and noticed that it was repeatedly getting slammed by reviewers that just weren't "getting it." This pretty much went for anything not named Final Fantasy. It was around that point that I realized that relying on other people's opinions to form my own game library would lead to disaster at best.

 stickball why did you put persona 3 and 4 in that list they arent on ps3/360/wii therefore invalid.

Put them in for posterity since both titles have come out since next-gen started.

wow...i was expecting anything between 8-9 from the previews and gameplay videos i saw.....this is a surprise....damn...

hmm.. that's about the impression I had of SO4s cutscenes (from videos) - the writing and execution seems to be subpar, which quite frankly is a huge no-go in JRPGs

There are FF games I like and some I dont. And FF6 is one of the best JRPG's Ive ever played. I just dont personally take face value that all of them will be good. :)

When it comes to JRPG's(any console) and often Wii games reviewers gives the games -1 just for being what they are.

So a 8 and 8.75 isn't so bad

Game Informer gave Lost Odyssey an 8.5. That game is at least a 10.
