Having "unbearable dialogue", "awkward plot points", and "ludicrous story development" is pretty much fatal flaws for JRPG's for me.

I founds myself some new friends, professor..." -Edge Maverick
Oh Lawd. >_>

And what is wrong with that?

That's what I want to know.  I mean, it definitely sounds akward and embarrasing to read and listen to but I can't figure out why.

Star Ocean 4 might be right to some people, but it seems it isn't right for me.
I'm checking one more review then moving on if it doesn't hook me back...

Hey, that's Torillian's line.

haha... sorry man, couldn't resist.

I told you guys this is how it would be....I always tell you how it will be.

In other news, WKS will probably end up like this as well. This isn't a genre you can phone in, in any way. Sparing expense, or even making very small mistakes often ruins a whole game. Not like shorter less focused games. They can afford mistakes. That's why this genre is the "favorite" genre of the core gamer. When done right, there is no besting it. It's like the lead Thundercat. It can do every strength of the other Thundercats better than they can.

It's just very hard to do it right, though. Bullet points are bullshit in a jrpg. All the conventions of other genres end up as shallow jokes. Any jrpg that isn't nearing perfection, will be viewed as shit. That's why it's so amazing when games like HoD, FES, and ToV come out. It's done so well in so many areas that it's shocking how many manhours must have been spent to make this boring ass premise so fun and interesting.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

In the right context it sounds acceptable and logical. But out-of-concept it sounds embarassing. That´s typical in JRPGs and creates misconceptions when taken out-of-context.

why does everyone think iu is a mediocre game ? i think its been pretty decent. im 7hours in and i love it............some1 mentioned wkc! well i cnt wait for that i really wanna try the coop

I'm with you in that IU is a good game. My persoanl gripes were the shortness of the game somewhat weak graphics and the game leaving you in the unknown at times not telling you or hinting at where you need to go next. Or my favorite it would tell you where you had to go but the map never showed where you had to head to get there. I did however love the gameplay and the story so it was fun to me. Let me know what your final impressions are once you get all the way through it.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

I'm a fan of JRPG's, I know how it works. It's the same even in anime. I'm just pointing out the irony, hence why I wrote his name beside the quote.
They name the guy "Edge awesome fucking Maverick".
The name "Edge" alone sounds cool and badass, add "Maverick" which also sounds badass and cool and they give him such a ronery line...

I will get it but I am a little dissapointed but I think White Knight will be the RPG I am waiting for

Kiss those dreams goodbye because WKC suffers from a mediocre story and a relative lack of eye candy(I'm referring to special effects in battles, not the graphics which are pretty damn good).  Not trying to hurt your feelings but just saying.

well the story has to be better then Rogue Galaxy and I like the art style of this game and the battle system seems very interesting in the way you could create ur own combos. I will Star Ocean 4 for the eye candy and WKC for everything else

Here's RPGFan's review of White Knight Chronicles: http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/White_Knight_Chronicles/index.html

"Things just trudge along mindlessly in a story that makes Rogue Galaxy look like Xenogears"

OT: I read the review and looks alright. I'll wait for RPGFan and GameSpot reviews before I make my decision if I should get this first day or after a price drop.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's crazy

Hmm... I am semi-interested in this, but having never played previous SO games, the review sounds fairly damning to me. I guess I'll wait for some more opinions...

Hates Nomura.

Tagged: GooseGaws - <--- Has better taste in games than you.

Hold on a minute. I didn't put much stock in the Famitsu review, but I put just as little in the game informer review -- didn't they give Vesperia a 7 as well?

Something about Game Informer's taste in games reminds me of my older brothers, who missed the entire SNES generation (they were too old) and pretty much just played the main food groups -- Mario, Sonic, EA sports, and then got into every FPS and RTS on PC that came along. I think to appreciate JRPGs you have to be a kid around the SNES age or younger -- or you have to be a natural fantasy/sci-fi loving geek. (Or maybe both..?)

From reading a couple of their JRPG reviews, I would say Game Informer might be a good yard stick for how silly a friend who's never played a JRPG will think the game is, but it's probably not a good measure for those who just want a good JRPG, conventions and all.

I definitely expect the game to average 1 point higher than the Game Informer Review, if not better. I guess we'll see once some more reviews hit. I'm still hopeful Tri-ace has turned on the juice for their main series and the game is not-to-be-missed (no matter what the review scores).

Reviews taking a while to come out, and not all coming out at once, could be a function of the game taking a long time to play through, couldn't it?

I looked it up, Game Informer gave Vesperia a 73, with a review that basically says "it's good, if you're into that kind of thing -- which we aren't. Not that there's anything wrong with that, if you are."

Game Informer is also owned by the Devil, if you people haven't forgotten.

They talked me into subscribing to Game Informer.
