Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit - article praising and slamming it!

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Nintendo-Power-Heath-Bell-credits-Wii-Fit-for-w?urn=mlb,141718

Check out the link. Article about a Padres relief pitcher having lost 25 pounds over the winter thanks to Wii Fit. However, there is a link in the article to another article about how Wii Fit is collecting dust (and also states that 1.5M Wii Fits in the US despite article being from Jan 09... Where do they get there figures (though was before NPD release thjat 800k Wii Fits flew off shelves in Jan alone!)).

The "Fad" article quotes kotaku. Are they anti-Wii as well (like most of the gaming press)?

I still use my Wii Fit but together with other fitness activities. But it is a good way of staying motivated and following your progress on graphs and such.

wow, Forbes is a joke. They can't even do the least amount of research possible for an article. Even if we say they didn't get NPD January numbers, the thing was still at >4m by 09.

At least yahoo is using what should be a good source for information, so I can't blame them too much. Also, I don't know what "Fad" article you are talking about, maybe I missed it.

Anyways, Wii Fit does help you lose weight, but mostly from helping you monitor your weight which really does help me. I've lost 20lb so far, but I regained 10 when I stopped using Wii Fit for a few months, so I'm down 10 total.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Nothing like starting the day off with a little insecurity.

The numbers might be strange, but I suspect there are quite a lot of Wii Fit games that go unplayed now (just like a majority of games you and I buy a few months after purchase).

My "Fad" article was regarding the Forbes article in which they quote someone from Kotaku calling Wii Fit a fad.

@ WoW - And yes, I am insecure... But am I wrong in finding many "gamers" and their websites relatively anti-Wii? I don't lose much sleep over it, rest assured.

Since the Wii is the most popular system and is (along with DS), one of the main reasons the gaming industry is doing so well, I doubt most gamers are anti-Wii. The vast majority of gamers I know like the Wii. Of course, the majority of folks, at least in the US, are gamers.

If you are talking about some self-selected group of gamers not liking the Wii, maybe so. Some of the gaming press is biased - just like the press in general. Anyway, the Wii is the most popular system on this site.

Certainly true, but many articles regarding Wii Fit act as if this is a unique attribute of the game.

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

Yes, Kotaku is anti-wii.

However, after being emailed and laughed at for his quotes on that article, Brian Crecente issued an apology to Wii Fit fans:

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

Thanks for the link Frybread, very nice.

And apologies to all for calling gamers "anti-Wii". I guess what I should have said (ie what I meant, not that I am necessarily right) is "hardcore" gamers seem to not like the Wii, but I hate using "hardcore".

At least the Kotaku guy showed some integrity in posting his "wii is not a fad". He doesn't have to like it but at least he doesn't deny that lots of people do.

It is amazing how they are shouting "FAAAD" repeatedly for a game that has a CHANCE of stop getting played months after it was bought, and don't compare it to the rest of the game industry, where the AAA titles are sold for a week or two before becoming totally obselete.
