ROBOTECHHEAVEN said: well they could get "id software" , "valve " for their fps series. both companies love m$ and they have a studio for their racing games. rts games, they still have ppl for those games. i am 100% confident that a ton of dev's would want too work with m$, why? simple they have the money and resources. |
Valve does indeed love Microsoft and Gabe their fearless leader is a shill for Microsoft if ever I've seen one (doesn't hurt he worked there 10 years or so before leaving).
ID though, they are far from MS fanboys. They are in the Vanguard when it comes to non MS tech in games for one thing. They are one of the major supporters of Open GL which is to Direct X what Linux is to Windows, a superior open standard that Microsoft loathes. I don't think they've had a major release not put onto the mac since they started in the 90s, and they have openly said they are being forced to make an inferior two disk version of their most recent game because the 360 doesn't have the power or capacity to handle the PS3/PC version. Hardly MS fan number one there.
MS doesn't really have anyone consistently on their side in the tech world (other then a few companies run by former MSers like Valve). They're like an oppressive king, yes they can get most people to pay them respect, but it seems a lot of people would rather have a better more democratic system if given the chance, its just too hard to get out of the Microsoft monopoly now (though just about every major tech company is putting more and more resources into overthrowing that monopoly from IBM and their full support of linux and open office to Dell selling linux boxes to Google and Apple working on open webkit standards and Office alternatives to ID, Sony and Nintendo pushing Open GL for games). When you look at Microsoft's corner there are very few people over there that don't have to be.
