Ratz said: I believe Sony's biggest concern should be the loss of 3rd party support.
THERES NO EVIDENCE OF LOSS OF 3RD PARTY SUPPORT. EVEN AT CURRENT SALES 20MILLION BASE, NOBODY WILL DROP SUPPORT, SONY GAINING A 3RD PARTY EXCLUSIVE OR MICROSOFT GAINING A 3RD PARTY EXCUSIVE DOESNT MEAN A GAME DROP FOR THE OTHER CONSOLE.
HD games take something between 3-5 years to develop, correct? So, the games we are seeing being release now or in the near future, had their development started back in 2006. Now, let's look at the reality in 2006 where the decisions to create today's games were made, who would predict that Wii would capture virtually 50% of the market, followed by the 360 and with the PS3 struggling in 3rd. Nobody. People thought only the 360 and PS3 were worth the development costs and so, they decided to develop for them.
EVEN THOUGH PS3 IS 3RD HAVE YOU GLANCED AT PS3 SALES ON RECENT 3RD PARTY TITLES LIKE FALLOUT COD5 ETC, WHO IN THE HELL WOULD DROP THAT SALES GAIN ON THIER TITLES.
Now, let's see today: The Wii is the big winner and ignoring it means ignoring 50% of the install base. EA already woke up to this, others will follow. The 360 is maintaining it's position and the PS3 is losing market share. That is the problem: losing market share and with no signs of turning the situation around and it is also clear that any price cut by Sony can be answered immediatly by MS with a price cut since they can afford it.
WII ISNT THE BIG WINNER IN CORE GAMING, TITLES LIKE FIFA, FALLOUT COD GTA5 ETC WOULD NOT WORK WELL ON WII. WII HAS PUSHED FORWARD CHILD/MINI GAME/CASUAL AND PARLOUR GAMES AND OF COURSE THIER MAIN NINTENDO GAMES, THATS WHATS MADE THEM THE WINNER. IN CORE GAMING IM AFRAID IM STAYING AWAY FROM WII BECAUSE IT DOESNT OFFER IT. AND EVEN IF IT DID LIKE NEW PORTS OF DEAD SPACE, ID RATHER HAVE THE HD VERSIONS.
The future does not look too good for Sony and even if they can turn this around, will 3rd party developers bet their companies' future on this? I doubt it. So, the consequences of today's situation will be felt by 2011, when the 10 years plan will hit the problem of fewer games to fuel sales.
AGAIN LOOK AT 3RD PARTY SALES ON PS3, WHO IS GOING TO DROP THAT SALES GAIN. NOBODY WILL
