Ban sounds good :P if thats allowe

Sure. We'd have to somehow get a mod to approve this. I'd have preferred something within our powers.

I'm sure we're allowed to request bans right?

Fine then. A week's ban?

Yup sounds good!

Of course if the PS3 does get that infamous april price cut I'm dooomed! I don't think it will though, and I think in the dry summer months it's going to fall  below 100k, I can't believe (looking back on the charts) it sold under 100k for 16 weeks in a row in 2007.

I had it back then. There was no point in buying one because it was so expensive and had no games...not even a back library to fall back on. I was mostly playing only Oblivion, resistance and ps2 games.

hey sony must be happy since they are still hitting their targets for ps3. they are in it for the long run so whats the rush? because the ps3 is still so expensive it will sell for a very long time and it hasnt even come anywhere near its peak yet. the 360 is already losing its steam and its the cheapest console out there. soon it will be cheaper than the ps2.

What? It's selling better than it did last year.

I swear, some people appear to live in fantasy-land.

Maybe some people think that Steam is available on the Xbox 360 and its losing it?

lmao

good one =)

I think Sony will hold out on a price cut as long as they can.
For the most expensive console it really is not doing that bad.

that^   plus the 360 just had a price cut and it did not really blow the PS3 out of the water which is a good sign.

No, it did blow the PS3 "out of the water." It just didn't do it all at once. It's doing it over time. In fact, it's still doing it. Look at the trends since the price cut and despair.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Sony has a lot of problems that need to be fixed. One problem is the Price of PS3, and another problem is lack of games that can sell hardware. These problems have to be fixed!

Even if they will lose money on a price cut, they need it desperately to regain sale momentum and also maintain it. A price cut can in the long run be turned into a profit by increased sales of software.

That leads to Sonys second problem. Without any must have titles, and increasing lack of exclusive software, Sony will be in serious trouble. Lately we've seen many exclusive games turn to Xbox 360 instead, and that's a serious blow to Sony.

The days when Sony could do virtually anything and still beat their competitors, are gone. Face it. They have a huge mountain to climb, and I seriously doubt they can make it. Christmas 2008 might actually be the period when PS3 lost its chances to catch up on Xbox 360.

Its not too late at all. Once the price gets cut this fall, I'm guessing $100, it will start to really sell well, probably upwards of 300k a week

To who? Who is going to buy a PS3 when they already have a 360 or Wii? They coul buy 5-6 games with the same amount of money for the system they already own.

This fall there will be no one left to sell to.  300k a week? Never. Ever.

Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'

I believe Sony's biggest concern should be the loss of 3rd party support.

THERES NO EVIDENCE OF LOSS OF 3RD PARTY SUPPORT. EVEN AT CURRENT SALES 20MILLION BASE, NOBODY WILL DROP SUPPORT, SONY GAINING A 3RD PARTY EXCLUSIVE OR MICROSOFT GAINING A 3RD PARTY EXCUSIVE DOESNT MEAN A GAME DROP FOR THE OTHER CONSOLE.

HD games take something between 3-5 years to develop, correct? So, the games we are seeing being release now or in the near future, had their development started back in 2006. Now, let's look at the reality in 2006 where the decisions to create today's games were made, who would predict that Wii would capture virtually 50% of the market, followed by the 360 and with the PS3 struggling in 3rd. Nobody. People thought only the 360 and PS3 were worth the development costs and so, they decided to develop for them.

EVEN THOUGH PS3 IS 3RD HAVE YOU GLANCED AT PS3 SALES ON RECENT 3RD PARTY TITLES LIKE FALLOUT COD5 ETC, WHO IN THE HELL WOULD DROP THAT SALES GAIN ON THIER TITLES.

Now, let's see today: The Wii is the big winner and ignoring it means ignoring 50% of the install base. EA already woke up to this, others will follow. The 360 is maintaining it's position and the PS3 is losing market share. That is the problem: losing market share and with no signs of turning the situation around and it is also clear that any price cut by Sony can be answered immediatly by MS with a price cut since they can afford it.

WII ISNT THE BIG WINNER IN CORE GAMING, TITLES LIKE FIFA, FALLOUT COD GTA5 ETC WOULD NOT WORK WELL ON WII. WII HAS PUSHED FORWARD CHILD/MINI GAME/CASUAL AND PARLOUR GAMES AND OF COURSE THIER MAIN NINTENDO GAMES, THATS WHATS MADE THEM THE WINNER. IN CORE GAMING IM AFRAID IM STAYING AWAY FROM WII BECAUSE IT DOESNT OFFER IT. AND EVEN IF IT DID LIKE NEW PORTS OF DEAD SPACE, ID RATHER HAVE THE HD VERSIONS.

The future does not look too good for Sony and even if they can turn this around, will 3rd party developers bet their companies' future on this? I doubt it. So, the consequences of today's situation will be felt by 2011, when the 10 years plan will hit the problem of fewer games to fuel sales.

AGAIN LOOK AT 3RD PARTY SALES ON PS3, WHO IS GOING TO DROP THAT SALES GAIN. NOBODY WILL

The problem with 3rd party that I see is not the today but the future, 2-3 years from now. The costs of development have being going up and the publishers, like Sulla posted, are losing money. The need to reverse that and the safest way it not to do a risky bet of dozens of millions of dollars on a game that might not sell well.

If the sales of the game go below estimates, the size of the install base might be the only thing that can prevent a loss.

Yeah, that's a big one. Personally, I'll need trico+gt5+gow3 to consider it's worth it at 400$ (considering I already own a 360 and a Wii).
