Well with a Price Cut they can definitely sell alot more...catchin up to the 360 I see very unlikely...but hey if they released a bareboned Ps3 with only 2 Usb ports..no backwards compatibility...no sd card slot...no wifi...and no HD just a memory card...for $200 I think it would beat the 360 lol...but that just takes away everything I love about my Ps3 sadly...but maybe it would appeal to more people who are tight on spending

A PS3 that can't play PS3 games or Blu-Ray movies is of no use to anyone, regardless of their spending habits.

Cutting the price at this point is pointless because a new ps3 purchaser would have to purchase 10+ games (except all games are from SCE) to offset sony's losses which would take a WHILE. Sony needs money NOW judging by their latest balances. Their only choice is just to hibernate and see what happens while gauging their moves for next gen.

I can guarantee that even if the ps3 doesn't get a price drop for the whole year, it's WW sales won't fall below 100K any week of the year. It would still outsell the GC,n64 and xbox easily and possibly SNES as well. That's good enough.

Half way there! no Blu Ray drive? how are you going to play games?

 

The only thing left in the PS3 that Sony can take out is Wifi, and there is no need as I'm sure they get it dirt cheap.

I know I said you were one of the better posters on this site but that sentance is ridiculous!

 

Software can only push consoles so much, and it has to be a big game. Its debateable if Killzone will have any impact on hardware sales. In the dead months of summer (no MGS4 this year) sales will only slump further ....

 

Honestly it sold under 140k this week, sales in the summer months even worse ...

Er .. AFAIK the PS3 only has 2 USB slots, no BC, no SD ... so how can sony take it out when its already been taken out?

Wanna make a bet Seece? Software won't push the console's sales "so much", however, they'll keep it afloat. Ps3 had many dips in 2007 due to the "lack of games" not just the price. I think they can stay afloat without a price cut till 2009 but if the cell drops in price they can cut the price to sell even more.

Well ps3s these days are really gimped. I use an SD card to back up my save files and use all my usb ports as well as BC. I don't know how these guys manage.

This is true sorry I got the 80gb MGS bundled Ps3 so my Ps3 has all that plus 4 usb ports plus BC with ps2....and I just realized I mad a very dumb comment lol...

How can you take out the HD from the Ps3 when we need it to play the games...since they have to install to your HD....that doesn count for all Ps3 games but for 95 percent of them...
