PS3 is better than X360 last year, so situation is not that bad considering the system has yet to see a good pricecut and reach its sweet spot.

Price cuts are still a lose on them---
1—anything they cut will eat into any chance they have of making a profit—and since shareholders are already getting cranky
2--anything sony can do micro can do just as well , and whats more they could go a step beyond with out having to take eat as much on each machine
3—price cuts are a quick fix—it would move hadware well for a few weeks maybe month but still not drag them out of the hole they have dug
(for proof of this look at the year over year ( they are down and that is even with aprice cut)

I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this, but we've all had the same "Sony is doomed" discussion at least several hundred times. In every NPD report, in dozens of thread, in every weekly chart in every region, etc. I just don't see the need for more.
At least in Europe price cut would help a lot PS3. Even now with the price point of 399€ it is not so far behind X360 which is almost free here(Arcade+3 games=165€). Shame that Sony can not afford price cut.
well the same could be said on 360 last year, ps3 came off a good price cut after xmas perioid so obviously it carried that momentum through into new year.
and this year it seems to be a reversal, 360 had a price cut and is carrying on momentum going into 2009.
i think sony should hold out price cutting untill they have reduced manufacturing costs that will let them do so. there is a long long time till end of gen so theres no point in loosing to much money to gain ground ASAP.
ps3 will continually be purchased by gamers and of course great games will continually be released for it, i know its selling less than other 2 but considering the price and recession its not doing as bad as i would have expected it to do so. it could have been much worse.
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...
I have to agree with MontanaHatchet, same old same old day after day, week after week, month after month.
The one thing I care about is Sony just giving up and leaving the console industry but that is something which is impossible. Software sales keep on going up which I do care about especially for first party games, that is why Uncharted 2, a new Insomniac game etc are coming.
If Sony were going to give up they would have done so know. Price drop will increase sales for that there is no doubt but Sony don't care about giving fanboys fuel, they want $$$.
Question is, does anyone think a $300 PS3 would outsell the 360?
They either need a price drop or a real deal bundle. A real deal bundle would be a $399 PS3 bundled with like 2 games and at least one of them needs to be MGS4, Killzone 2 or LBP.
Someone on Listen Up had a good idea when they said that if Sony is really trying to push the PS3 as some super media hub, all of them should come with a remote control and a Blu-Ray film. $399 isn't bad if you can get 1 good game, one great game, remote control and a movie.
I still think $299 would be better. Some people won't spend $400 on a console no matter what you throw in.
| kowenicki said: @ montana.... This is different, its based on the numbers, i dont think we have looked at the PS3 shrinking in light of the market rising before... because we didnt know until we saw some steady data which we now have. Its a sales discussion first and foremost, not a sony doomed thread at all... |
No, it's exactly the same. Every discussion has been based on the PS3's sales, otherwise we wouldn't have had the discussions. And if this wasn't a similar type of thread, it wouldn't have the same exact type of responses (which is why these sorts of threads become so tedious).
This is a funny topic, kinda like the "Why did teh Chicken cross teh road?" of VGChartz.
I graph you the answer:

Note how the red + blue lines (Sony products) add up to more than the green line (MS product) pretty much every week, except for a couple over the holidays, and have for eons. Sony probably makes more $$ on each unit in the blue line than MS makes on many units in the green line, and the red line loss probably isn't very much any longer. Also note I didn't add in handhelds.
How does Target survive, when they sell way less toys than Toys R Us sells?? How do they do it?!?
Perhaps we should ask... how does MS survive? Is it some miracle? Is it the deep pockets? How do they do it??
They need to put the hardware BC back in the PS3. Every new SKU they put out customers always ask does this new one have the BC. When they find out it doesn't they hold off on making the jump.
