@Demotruk
Nintendo out of all people were not in a stable financial state last generation...if they would have flopped this generation you probably would have seen Mario on a 360 or something...
They would have been Sega#2....right now Nintendo is really making alot of money...off the Wii and Im glad about that since it keeps them in the ballgame now next generation...
Microsoft? stabled last generation? no way they were constantly in the red with the Xbox and it did'nt even sell that well...the only reason I think Microsoft still around is due to it's billions it had stashed before entering the gaming world...but they lost a HUGE amount of money last generation...
Nintendo have not made a loss in a long time (if ever). Even the gamecube was profitable. Just look at their financial reports. Microsoft is willing to make a loss on XBox in order to counter the potential disruption of home computers that was being caused by the playstation brand.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Yeah.
On top of that, they have a warchest that never stopped growing. Over 20 billion dollars by now? It was one of Yamauchi's policies: since Nintendo only makes videogames, and the market is so unpredictable, it needs to hoard cash in order to endure bad situations. Iwata appears to like that policy too ;)
There are more than price working against SOny. One is the demographics, if an avergae American were told to a PS3 or 360 they would get a 360 for one simple reason;
Microsoft is AN AMERICAN COMPANY. And A LOT of americans play video games. ANd a lack of advertising from SOny in America really doesn't help them either.
The price drop will help, but they won't catch microsoft till 2011, at least.
I don't expect to see a pricecut this year. And I think they're doing well without it.

Americans are about the least manufactuer consious country out there.
Just about no one bought a 360 because an American company made it.

actually I think everyone is pretty much set for how they will finish this gen. Sure the PS3 could potentially outsell the 360 but by the time I see something like that happening the new xbox system would be released. To me that is one hollow victory. Thats not saying the PS3 is doing terrible or anything I just don't think it can catch the 360 before the next-gen begins.
@BenVTrigger
I agree with you I think the stones are set already....
1)Wii
2)360
3)Ps3
