Damn it. I wanted to be able to play it without using emulator. Looks like those dreams are shattered.

Guys, this game was released already in the US and Nintendo did not have a problem with licensing back then so why would they have a problem now?
Godot, parodies are your own work. Someone else may do an entirely different parody. Weird Al made a lot of money off parodies, especially from Micheal Jackson's songs. All he did was ask the singer, in this case Micheal Jackson, for his permission.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

There is but you can't sell a parody claiming it's your own. In the case of Earthbound, Nintendo must be claiming rights on all the music. It sucks because Nintendo at heart isn't a kid friendly company (Earthbound has a lot of twisted themes into it) but they need to keep that image in America. That's because of our stupid news network that fears anything related to video games (remember Mortal Kombat, Hot Coffee, etc.)? |
I don't think you've been paying attention to well. If anything, media reaction to video game content is softening as the years go by. Mortal Kombat had blood and people "OMG." Today just about half the games on the 360 practically have blood and gore (exaggeration). Do you see media going crazy about that? No.
| Omega_Phazon_Pirate. said: Ya imo that's bs. It wasn't a problem in 1995, and it shouldn't be a problem now. Key word, "shouldn't." It seems now a-days people/companies just go sue-happy to make a quick buck. |
Having the rights to do something doesn't necessarily mean you retain those rights forever. A good instance is "A Muppet Family Christmas," (special of theirs from the late 80's) which contained the muppets singing a lot of christmas songs. However, for some of the songs, the rights were only for the initial TV broadcasts, and when the special was released on DVD, they had to cut those songs out. Equally, these rights are not universal for all nations, to again cite this specific case, the UK and German DVD releases of "A Muppet Family Christmas" retained those songs
Kinda an obscure reference, but it illustrates my point. There may be actual legal grounds here, or it could just be NoA being jittery.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
It's really too bad. I'm poor. I can't afford to just go looking for this game on ebay and in game stores.
Also, what about the rick-roll "coincidence" in Chrono Trigger ... did that music make it into the DS port?
You would think there would be ways they could work around this kind of thing.
I'm not surprised. Mother was always the step child. I just don't see Nintendo putting up any fight to get it released.
Now Playing: The Witcher (PC)
Consoles Owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, Game Boy, DS
If that's true, that is disappointing. I have it for the SNES (two copies actually...if anyone is interested) but don't want to have to hook it up just to play that game along with some others if I can just download the ones I really want on VC.
I'll come up with something better eventually...
Wow, there's a patent on the word "mother"?
I guess people must stop reproducing, or else their children will get sued.
