Forums - Sony - The reason you love Sony?

"lol" @ drboot's post. Sony (with those games) are trying to do a nintendo buy providing people with quirky games that they hope will sell a buttload. If they didn't believe they would sell (or gain universal acclaim from reviewers) they wouldn't fund them.

I like Sony because I've never had a playstation break on me yet (though my PS3 freezes from time to time) and because they brought me FF8 and KH.

I don't "love" them, that's silly. But I do prefer them to Nintendo and MS because I think they own the best studios and game franchises. I'm not sure about Nintendo but compared to Microsoft, they seem more enthusiastic about videogames and more determined to associate their brand with great developers, franchises and new IP's. That's why they are building up their amount of 1st party developers instead of releasing them or shutting them down.

And the PlayStation 1 was the first console I truly owned and as someone mentioned, it was the birthplace of a ton of great franchises.

-Sony was one of the companies I grew up with

-Love the PS designs

-Love dualshock

-Love their 1st party games (ratchet and clank, the getaway, crash bandicoot, spyro etc.)

-Offer great products on PSN

-PSN is kick ass!!!! lmao

also

-Nintendo turned me into a gamer

-Sega didn't do much with me

-Sony showed me what gaming was

-Microsoft didn't really impress me

Favorite films. Foreign films forever!

I am not a fanboy, as I purchase and enjoy games from all systems when I have the cash.

I'll say this though. I've had my PS3 since launch. Never had a problem with it. Seems to be built to last. I'm not fond of Sony's decision to pull PS2 compatability from their later models though. I understand this was partly due to the pricing.

The PS2 is probably the main reason I love Sony. It had some absolutely fantastic games that I still play occasionally. Now, Sony is a company that's been around for a while. There are literally hundreds of reasons why people might love the company...

Person 1: Does Valkyria Chronicles have trophies?
Person 2:  No.
Person 1: Forget it. I'm not buying it.
Person 2: Wait! It's amazing! Unique, charming, drop dead gorgeous... Hello?

Listen to flower interviews. The designers are calling it a poem, a forerunner of artistic expression in the medium. It's not for quirks sake. Hideo Kojima always reiterates that he wants to make games that make people think, that provide a commentary to reflect on. Team ICO has made more than one commercially unsuccessful game yet they still retain an unlimited budget eventhough the style of their games is obviously never going to make them very mainstream.

Sony reps themselves have said that they wish to make video games a valid platform for artistic expression in the mind of the public.

All I want to say is this: They've allowed developers to put awesome games on their CD based systems.

However, Sony didn't make anything special other than that. I wished people would stop praising Sony for the PlayStation 2. As far as I know, Sony didn't make any "amazing" game for the system at the time it was out. It's the first party developers like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games that made their name so recognized in the gaming industry.

What did Sony even develop? The Legend of Dragoon? That's all I can remember from them.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

well i dont love any company i only love the games.

this gen i go with ps3 as its clearly the best console for me.

I don't really love Sony as a company but I appreciate their line of products.

I like their TV's and stereo's and have owned several car stereo's and a two regular stereo's made by them, their cameras and discman are also very good.
They also made the two consoles I've clocked the most hours by far, on and despite some hardware problems, my first PS2 (purchased in 2002) is still alive and well.
They also have some great game developers on their team.
Lastly, I also really like their cellphones, have had no problems with the three Sony Ericsson's I've owned in the past 7 years.

Like I said; the company itself could certainly stand to shape up but their products are fine. The same kinda relationship I have to Microsoft, really, I can appreciate a product without being in love with the people behind it.

Roma, why are you makign such a weird OP? Nintendo are fresh and new? Really? They don't have over 100 games featuring Mario, 14 Zelda's and otherwise many franchises still running that stem from the 80's?
Sony has done nothing new at all and just copy?
Spyro, Jak, Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Tohshinden, Gran Turismo, 3D Final Fantasy and the first one with voiceacting, Need for Speed, Loaded, Twisted Metal, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Ridge Racer, Jumpin' Jack Flash, GTA both 2D and 3D, Driver just to name a few, were all games and concepts that were born on PS consoles and the original PS revolutionized the industry in its time, having features and games never before seen on a console or even PC (full CD-ROM support, Audio-CD's, built in audio and video codecs for better video and hardware that was on par with or almost better than standard PC's at the time).

I you think that all the above examples (I could make more, these were just the ones that immideatly sprung to mind) are plagiarized or blatantly copied, then surely everything Nintendo has made is taken from Atari and everything MS has made is from Sony and/or PC?
I know you're not a Sony or Playstation fan (like so many in here) but I had no idea that you were capable of being this incoherent and irrational. When you took a shot at tremble's post you're really making even worse; bad hardware? So everything Sony makes is unreliable? Phones, cameras, TV's stereo's, consoles, discs etc?
Ugly consoles? Certainly no more than others, I have never seen a pretty console, myself.
Socom might be bad so every Sony published or devloped title must be crap as well?
Number 4 is strange, I agree.
I too love the dualshock controller, between that and the N64 one, I was set for years!
Number six is true, PS and PS2 had a vast variety of games from all parties, whether they came from third, second or first party developers don't matter, they are still available on the platform (s), you're just being childish here imo.

Come on, get real, give credit where credit is due, saying Sony has nothing to offer to anyone and that they've done nothing for the entertainment industry (games, movies, music) is beyond anything I think I've heard in here.

Haha that was funny no really you made me laugh. As I did not say they that they haven’t done anything new just not much enough to earn their love… I mean what did they themselves do (eye toy?), they just bought

some companies and vwalah we have games yay!! Plus I did name the two systems with problems I did not say everything they do is bad lol.

Well you can’t deny the fact that most of their success is based on copying!

Yes @Dallinor I do respect others opinion though I would like to know the reason as well. lol I thought I would be able to keep up with answering most of you but lol it will take a bit longer than I thought :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

They make awesome TV's. Only people my family and I buy TVs from is Sony.

I've personally never own a Playstation console but I do have PS2 sitting in my room right now but haven't touched it.

But I respect Sony for expanding the industry from a central core group to a more mainstream (or what most call casual) group. They really achieved that well while making some respectable series for the core along the way.

Most people here and on the internet love sony because the PS1/2 was their first console. They are kids. Most people on the Internet are jobless kids or early 20s people. They have no jobs, and thus, can afford to play on the Internet all day.

That is why sony fanboyism is so prevelant on the internet. Sony and core internet forumgoers, have the same market segment. Tweens.

Now, occasionally you'll find a Sony fanboy that started playing games at NES, just as you'll find nintendo fanboys who started playing during the PS2 era. Flukes. Whatever company introduced and made you love gaming is the one you are a fanboy of, and you always shall be. It's called fate.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
