Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Repeating 8-bit Generation?

I was thinking about this fopr a while and I'm sure others have too,(sorry if there is a thread about this already) but doesn't it seem like Nintendo is repeating everything it did in th e8-bit generation with the Wii?

Here's some Examples:

NES and Wii both outsell their competitors by a large margin

Both introduced a new way to play games(NES had D-pad, Wii has motion controls)

Both also have similar accessories:

Power Pad= Wii Balance Board

Power Glove= Wii Remote

NES Zapper= Wii Zapper

I was wondering what your opinions are on this and if you know any other similarities between the NES and Wii or Similarities in any other of Nintendos systems(like how the Game and Watch looks almost exactly the same as the DS)

The wii is a revolution like the NES. It is totally new and different it brings bunches of fresh ideas like NES did.

I just wish I was born a few years earlier to experience the NES but I'm experiencing it  now on my Wii.Love VC. I also love you can hold the wii mote like NES controller when playing NES games.

I want the NES zapper, that gun was SO MUCH better

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Cool that is better than the Wii zapper!

I bet it doesn't work as good as the Wii Zapper.

very good point OP. TheSource actually made one that tackled this issue a while back, and I've echoed these sentiments for quite sometime. Other similarities include buzzwords like "fad" PC gamers calling the graphics weak and the games library offering different genres across the board. Games like MGS got its start on the NES.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Add this one.

Like the NES, the Wii was by far the biggest hit in America
