Forums - Sony - Playstation: The Official Magazine doesn't even try to act objective.

Well if the playstation magazine was purley objective then what would be the purpose in it being called the "official playstation magazine" ?

I don't think anybody is expecting pure objectivity from an official magazine, but OXM does a really good job of shooting straight and taking Microsoft to task whenever they deserve it (RROD, lack of mandatory hard drives, criticisms of NXE, you name it). Most importantly, they don't ever engage in this type of "nya-nya-boo-boo, we stole your exclusive" shit (not even for Final Fantasy XIII). They even openly ridicule the console warz. The OXM writers seem like gamers first and foremost; this guy seems like a flaming fanboy.

Exactly. Hell, they even managed to write an entire article about how great Killzone 2 looks without ruing the fact that it's not coming to the 360.

That's great, the official magazine for the 360 wasting time writing about another platform.

Btw, I've read PSM, now OPM, for a long time.  One of their first reviews while OPM was a 6 for Warhawk, and they got a lot of backlash for that.  They put out a great magazine and it's not like Nintendo Power used to be.  Nintendo Power is now under the guy that used to do PSM, Chris Slate.  Both are pretty good magazines right now.

Your use of 1 article to trash a magazine is rather ridiculous.  He's praising the game by saying he wants it on the system he owns.  Big deal.

I appeal to PS fans, I am a subscriber to OPM UK, and I think they do a very good job most of the time, but of course it is a different mag that we are talking about

All hail the glorious PS3!

The fact that you could take such an extreme offense over half the content of the short peview shows just how much prejudice you had in picking up this magazine again.

Don't force yourself, its not healthy and the voice in your head is lying, you don't have to be unbias to go to heaven.

@seece; a very broad brush you are painting, and as unjust as the lamentable term xbots.

I don't mind biased review outlets that are open and honest about their bias. PSM, Nintendo Power, and the old SEGA Visions are examples of these. They're biased, but they don't pretend to be anything else, so you can account for that bias yourself.

What bothers me are the review outlets that pretend to be unbiased. There are no truly unbiased outlets -that's just a consequence of reviewers being human- but when they pretend to be, they take a valuable tool away from their audience: skepticism. Reviewers should drop the pretense, come clean about where their biases lie, and let life go on.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Haven't bought a new issue of OPM in about two years. Still, if I were an Xbox owner and I were reading an issue of OPM in which they called a game for my console "great" and showed jealousy, I wouldn't be offended. It would be like the Official Xbox Magazine gushing over Killzone 2 and saying "It's a shame WE don't have that game!".
