Forums - Sony - Has the PS3 taught sony a valuable lesson?

My take:

Sony strengths -

Pushed Blu Ray and killed HD-DVD
Produced one of the most advanced consoles in history
Instilled the fear of God into MS

Sony weaknesses -

Sony resting too much on its laurels due to previous successes PS1 and PS2. Sony got too cocky and arrogant this generation and it took its consumer base for granted.

Sony underestimated its competitors: Nintendo and Microsoft. Wii and XBox 360 have done much better than Sony had anticipated.

Three in a row - Oh no. Unlucky third generation win in a row eludes Sony with PS3 and the win goes to the Wii. Nintendo could not win its third title in a row after NES and SNES killed the competition. N64 arguably the most disastrous console move by Nintendo sticking with cartridges instead of using CDs ending Nintendos N64 success from the beginning.

Overlooked the casual crowd
Removed the primary reason for PS2 owners to upgrade - backwards compatibility (which the Wii has, as well as the 360 does now with hard drives)
Lost a grip of third party exclusives but held
High price (despite features) Blu-Ray contributed significantly to high price of PS3.
No rumble with initial controllers
Free online but no where near as robust as Xbox LIVE
