Forums - Sony Discussion - Crytek: Our PS3 Development Is Going Deeper Then People Asume.

I saw a thread earlier talking about Crytek's plans for the Wii, and so went looking and found the link to the interview. GI: You have a PlayStation 3 R&D room here, but there doesn't seem to be an Xbox 360 room. Why is that? CY: Actually we have one, but it's separate. PC and 360 are in one room. The PS3 room is separate because we have some secret technologies being developed there which are not related to CryEngine 2. Our PS3 development is going deeper than many people assume right now. There are competitors right now who have PS3 technologies up and running. We had our initial version up and running, but we said there are too many compromises. Yes, we could have commercialised the engine business et cetera, but we felt that if you want to make console games one day - if you want to get groundbreaking results and do things people think are impossible, you need technologies and solutions for that. The platform itself has a lot of power, but the technology has to provide a framework for the developer so we can unleash that kind of gameplay. It looks like they're building an engine that's going to be fully optimized for the PS3, making full use of it's power. Interesting stuff, I wonder if there is an exclusive title in the works.

crysis on ps3? lol j/k but it would really be amazing if they can manage to bring crysis on the ps3 running at a nice 60fps  clip(30fps isnt enough).

Ohh, that tickled me much!!!

This looks to be more for a new IP. Maybe some developers are getting more out of the Cell sooner than we thought.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It's not FPS. Finally something different!

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

The PS3 multi-platform developer situation seems to be improving. First Epic works with Sony to add Cell support for their engine, Fifa 2008 apparently will finally be the first EA game to use the Cell's SPEs and now Crytek is working on some "secret" stuff as well.

Combined with the availability of the Edge toolset to 3rd parties it looks like we'll have a lot to look forward to. First class 1st and 2nd party PS3 developers including companies like Insomniac and Naughty Dog have helped making the Edge toolset possible.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
