Forums - Sony - Can the PS3 catch up/beat the 360 in Europe?

thats the oldest argument in the book. Realistically in order for the 360 to be as expensive as the PS3 it would obviously have much more inside the machine like either a blu-ray processor or better CPU while in order for the PS3 to be as cheap as the 360 it would have to lose something like either the cell or blu-ray support. In other words we would be dealing with completley different machines. Secondly, a massive failure? Last time I checked the PS2 MASSIVELY outsold the xbox in Europe while the PS3 is currently being outsold weekly by the 360.

At the end of the day I expect Sony will win Europe but to call the 360 a failure given the numbers is just ignoring facts.

Price

early relese with no comp.

and its lead is down to 1 mill

= a failure.

If it was not sales now and overall would be like NA.

I dont know how but align PS3 Eu sales and 360 from launch ? can you do that for me.

@ Twingo

I'm not going to argue with you. I know there is zero chance of convincing you. Either way you have your opinion I have mine and let's leave it at that.

Yes, with a decent price drop PS3 sales should surge ahead. However Sony needs to show momentum in Europe this year or it will likely be too late.

Even US is very do able 80 million last gen give or take. 360 lead can be eroded.

Price cut and shooters, K2 will hurt 360 badly if it gets a huge ad campaign.

No better way to bring something down then to attack its greatest strength, just honestly think what is a 360 with out its death grip on shooter games. Its like wii without waggle, totally pointless.

I think you're overestimating Killzone's effect and success in the US (I'm not saying it won't sell well). The reason being is that despite all the attention "gamers" are putting on it, after talking with PS3 owners who only have sports games and Call of Duty 4, many of them never even heard of Killzone 2. There's no advertising in my area (NJ), there's no media coverage (which is pretty much free marketing), there's not enough mainstream hype.

I think you're also underestimating the 360, as its greatest strength is the shear number of games it has, and therefore range of games it has. My biggest worry is how many JRPGs they're getting. Hopefully FFXIII exclusivity will seal the deal for Sony in Japan, and allow it to breath easy.

If KZ2 were to have its biggest impact, Sony needs to make the average person see it as the PS3's biggest title, its mascot, its "Halo Killer" (Although COD already killed Halo...)

The PS3s strongest market, its still not good to be third here no matter how glorious the come-back is imagined to be.

Tease.

if i remember correctly the ps3 did gain the lead in others a few months back, so re-gaining the lead shouldn't be tough

It will be tough considering how casual Europe is getting. Games like killzone won't be huge system sellers there but I expect halo wars and GTA lost and dammed to move systems.

All down to respective strategies. Europe is on a knife edge, really could go ether way. I wouldn't like to try and call it at the moment.
