Everyone saying "System Shock 2" is absolutely correct. I played that game with headphones in the dark and it freaked me out. :) No other game has been that creepy the whole way through.

Not really.
Although, I want to say that Resident Evil isn't very scary.
| lestatdark said: Dead Space was a great survivor horror game, actually managed to surprise me with it's atmosphere, and the fact that it made me remind my favourite Horror movie of all time, Event Horizon. That being said, it doesn't come nearly as close as to the horror of Enemy Zero for the Saturn, you wanna play a game that is gonna scare the s*** out of you? then really get that game. You play alone, as a defenseless woman stranded in the middle of a space ship, invaded by invisible aliens (that's right, invisible, you cannot see them, you can only hear them, and only when they are ready to attack you) and the only weapon that you get to confront them, is a sonar gun in the final 30 minutes of the game. You have to do the whole game (12 hours of it) running like hell because of an enemy that you cannot see and that can kill you very easy. That my friend, is terror XD |
That sounds like a terrifying game.
fear 1 and doom 3 5.1 surround very creepy it scares you once then you know whats coming the second time or after you die.
didnt feel resident evil 4 was super scary great game though liked dead space creepy atmosphere but it didnt make me jump.
Condemned 1 was scarier also
Sillent Hill & REmake take the crown for horror in a game. Although I must say Dead Space had some memorable moments.
Its not very scary, nowhere near the level of the following
Silent Hill 1,2 and 3
Resident Evil 2
Fatal Frame games
Siren Blood Curse
Haunting Ground
Clock Tower games
Eternal Darkness
Rule of Rose
Now that I think about it...
Sonic the hedgehog was pretty damn scary... you know, the parts where you're underwater and trying to look for bubbles to survive. Add that with the frantic music and that's one hell of a scare.
Dead Space is the only game that has ever scared me. Other games try to be scary, but it usually comes off as disgusting or expected. In Dead Space, your playing then out of know where your heart starts beat a little faster, especially in one part (I dont want to ruin it).
