Forums - Gaming - Who probably spent their $50 million better: Microsoft or Sony?

IIRC, Microsoft gets the revenue of the DLC until they get the money back, so it's only a 'loan' once the DLC makes $50 million. (Or maybe they get a portion of the DLC money, in which case it would have to sell way more.)  If MS doesn't make the money back, it's not a loan ... unless I'm wrong.

No, i'm pretty sure it's more like...

Microsoft gets the revenue of the DLC until they get there money back....

and if the DLC doesn't make the money back it becomes a regular "loan" that if take 2 can't pay back... they start having to pay interest on etc.

Microsoft gets paid either way.

Kind of like the US-UK "lend-lease" policy.

Other areas where Microsoft spent $50M

Gears of War 1/2 -> Better use of money than KZ2.

Halo 3 -> Definately better use of money than KZ2.

GTA IV -> Well they are getting most/all of that money back!

Tease.

This is a stupid comparison. How about comparing the money MS spent on Halo 3 against the money spent by Sony on KZ2. At least that's a comparison of an investment made by both companies into their biggest first party title, instead of a loan MS made for some DLC.

This.

What makes this silly is that all of these numbers are still rumored for the most part, right?  Do we really know as fact how much it cost MS for the DLC?  Or an exact production cost for Killzone 2?

Lot of discussion here for unconfirmed numbers . . .

to the gta content: yes we do know: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/10116.cfm

to KZ2: we know nothing for sure but it's pretty safe to say it cost more than most games.

Well, seeing as how GTA IV is crap (imo) I'd say... MS. I'll never play the expansion or the original game (again) but I'll probably love KZ2.
The OP asks me who I believe spent their money the best; I think MS will gain more from their investment and thus theirs was the best regardless of how I feel about the games they invested in.

I thought Microsoft had lent the money? I'm probably wrong.

You ARE right. It's a loan. A fact conveniently ignored by many....

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Gotcha.  Thanks for the link.

Still, we're talking $25 million for Lost and Damned.  That's all we know for now.  No details on the next DLC or firm numbers on Killzone 2.  Not enough for a discussion to me.  Yet here I am . . .

Well we do know that Killzone is greater then 16 million euros ($21 million at the time announced)

So... Killzone and Lost and the Damned cost the same, or Killzone cost more.

Well unless it costs less due to the depriciation of the Euro to the yen, but that was a late breaking thing, so it's unlikely.

r u guys forgeting that L&D is an EXPANSION and not a whole game. It requires that gamers still own GTAIV to play it. In case u havent noticed, gamestop has GTAIV by the shelf loads used. Majority of them returned are from the 360 by 3to1 margin. unless you believe ppl are going to run out and REBUY GTA back, the dlc will only do average.

i say invest $ in new games rather then dlc(that could of been on the disc). Killzone is def the better investment.
