You probably need to state your budget before anyone can have a real crack at answering.

'I don't want to be paying hundreds etc etc' doesn't really give much info!

I would consider that 'hundreds'

Don't want to be paying hundreds? For a gaming rig? Go get a Commodore 64 then, good PC gear costs money and most rigs below 6-700$ won't be very impressive for gaming (high end at that).

No, Hundreds extra to get a core that is just a fraction faster then a cheaper one. My budget i project at like 2500-3000 dollars at the most.

My goal is to run games like crysis at full power etc etc. But if one model of this is better then this but its 1p28019820 dollars more for only a slight increse. . . see where i am going?

@Sharky

You could try something like this:

Intel Core I7 920

6Gb DDR3

X58 board

2x HD 4870/1 or 2 4870 X2 1GB GPUs.

30" Dell monitor

2x SSD in raid as boot drive

2x 1.5TB HDDs in Raid 1 for backup

etc etc.

Something like that?

What are the prices on those things? I have a monitor I use right now as my HDTV for my PS3. So I probably will end up using that. Then again maybe not. will i really need 3 TBs of hard drive space? :O

What you really need to decide are:

What design considerations are important and therefore should have extra budget allocated and what design considerations are less important?

  • Noise?
  • Form factor, big/small make a difference?
  • Resolution/size of monitor (Determines the GPU you require)
  • How computer savvy you are?
  • Responsiveness/Boot times?
  • Power efficiency?
  • What games do you play? Shooter/RTS/RPG?
  • What will you use it for?

# Noise?(I don't mind sound when using a computer, my laptop sounds like a car lol)
# Form factor, big/small make a difference?(don't care much about the size)
# Resolution/size of monitor (Determines the GPU you require)(right now my monitor's max res is like 1080 as the second number[bought it for HD gaming with my PS3] Id not be against using a better monitor if you recommend it.)
# How computer savvy you are?(i dont know much about parts, my brother would build it. he is gonna do this stuff for a living. But I am pretty good with using programs etc etc)
# Responsiveness/Boot times?(boot time? I guess that isnt an issue, what do you mean responsiveness?)
# Power efficiency?(not a huge factor, i dont pay the power bill :P and we are getting solar panels. . .)
# What games do you play? Shooter/RTS/RPG?(all of the above)
# What will you use it for?(Gaming, maybe movies and music. I will continue to use my laptop for everyday internet etc etc)
