Forums - Sales - Are the iQue (Nintendo China) sales being tracked??

China is not a huge market in terms of entertainment. They rip, steal and pirate everything there so there's no real point of even tracking the 5 people that actually bought a legitimate Nintendo product over there.

it is sort of hard to pirate hardware. You can hack it, but you still need to buy the system in the first place. Although, you are right, the hardware market isn't very big.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

They have a way around "pirating" hardware. They make their own versions of popular systems (Nintendo Vii) at a dirt cheap price (obviously far inferior technology) and create essentially rip off (but not pirate) versions of flagship titles, such as Vii sports, Mario, etc.

As for if it is tracked, does Nintendo account for the iQue in their financial statements? Since I'm fairly sure they don't group the iQue with their regular products, and we are so close to Nintendo financial results, I think it is safe to say that we do not track iQue sales.

Nintendo doesn't include iQue sales with their totals, as iQue is considered a joint venture and not a full subsidiary (like NOA).   Sony does include Chinese PS2/PSP sales from SCEH (Hong Kong / China) in their hardware totals however, and a couple times even delineated them from NA/EU/JP iirc.

Does iQue manufacture them or simply distribute them with their branding? If Nintendo manufacture them then I guess it is counted as a DS unit sold when they sell them to iQue. Its like a revision but for selling to a particular client. If they dont then its probably not counted.

Becaused companies outside of China needs to be sponsored by a chinese company in order to sell products there. For your personal knowledge, those sponsors along with the Chinese government take a higher margin of profit then a usual distributor.
