I've recently seen many posts saying "this gen sux", or "I'm tired of gaming", etc etc etc. I honestly think that this the best time to be a gamer! I know some guys will come with their amazing "amstrad WTFBBQ" or the "atari OMGtogoodtobetrue", but let's be honest, even if everything is not perfect this gen it's by far the best one! - No more "leader": bye bye the Psone/Pstwo days, today, each console can exist and has its market. Wii is doing great, PS3 and 360 are doing good, everybody's happy!

- Online gaming: I know it's not a first in the industry, the dreamcast and the xbox did it before, but now online gaming is available for everyone, giving gaming industry new perspectives: LBP is a good exemple, but let's not forget all the FPS, and we know how addictive they can be online!

- New concepts: of course there is the wii, with its new way to play. Even if I don't like it (I don't say it's bad, it's just that I don't like), it brings something new to the industry. Talking about games, new concepts were given to players: LBP once again, RTS on consoles, ...

- DL games: Allows you to play original games that couldn't be released on DVD/blu ray. Would you pay 60$ for braid?

- Media-center: Music, video and internet in your living room!

Agreed, the only bad I can say about this generation is that a few good game developers have lost their jobs

It's way too easy to be negative and cynical in this day and age but really, it ain't so bad. If only companies were willing to take more chances with their games. I can understand though because lots of money is at risk when developing for this generation.

This gen sucks purely because fo the fact JRPG's are on a huge downturn in terms of popularity (and with some, lots, quality).

Another "suck" point is DLC and patches. Half assing your game and depriving it of rightful content FTW?

Thirld, your media center point is fully true only about the PS3,and only in part for the 360 and Wii.

As for online gaming, single player seems to suffer because of that. With online gaming devs are putting less effort into the Single player/campaign.

Personally, the 6th gen is my favorite. This on'es good, but not as good as the 6th.

@Xen: I'm also a big Jrpg's fan, but it was the same with the last gen. Dark chronicles 2, FFX, shadow hearts, rogue galaxy, DQVIII,... All those games took their time! right now we have lost odissey, WKC, Valkyria chronicles and disgaia3 as good rpg's. FXIII, versusXIII, DQIX are coming too... Just be patient ;)

For patches, yeah I know what you mean, but how many buggy games couldn't be patched last gen? Before, when you had a problem with a game, you just kept it, now you can DL a patch to correct it!

For the online gaming part, I don't agree, solo mode's not suffering IMO.

Everything I have for PS2/GC doesn't seem to need any patches =P (see collection)

Ah, all these JRPG's your mentioned are good, but.. too little, you know? last gen we had a steady stream of them every year.

As for SP being weaker than MP, see Halo 3. The single is solid, but the multiplayer is through the roof.

At the end, the new improvement is called "DLC" and is mostly NOT FREE
Before, you had the full game for the correct price, now you have to pay extra bucks !!

This generation overall has indeed been great for a wide variety of gamers, except for the long time JRPG fan.

I agree. We're seeing old IPs making comebacks, such as Gradius, R-Type and even Bionic Commando!

The XBLA, PSN and WiiWare are such amazing services, I can't believe it took them that long to come up with them! xD
