How bad of a condition must your DS be to send in for repairs?

I just got a DS from my friend for free. She just gave me the DS raw and New Super Mario Bros. (No box etc) The touch screen (and DS is general) is pretty scratched up and power button feels really stiff like its gonna come off.

I registered it at Nintendo.com and it said the warranty was extended 90 days. So I check the support and seems I can send it in for free of charge.

Question is will my problem be enough? Does it have to really be fucked up for them to repair the DS?

Around the Network

im pretty sure that console skus are tracked when they are scanned at the retailer.  if that is the case, then regardless of when you registered it on mynintendo...if its an older system, even the extended 90 days over standard warrantee could've expired long ago.

Secondly, even if it still falls under warrantee, they are highly unlikely to consider cosmetic blemishes as a covered fix.  Something would have to be broken that falls under the manufacturer's "free from defects for period from purchase date" for a fix free of charge.  They will probably charge you a nominal fee to replace the scratched screen if you wanted.

the best thing to do ultimately, is call nintendo's cust. service number and see what they have to say.  They are nice people to deal with, and usually easy to get through to.  Oh, and don't volunteer the fact that you aren't the original buyer

.

GL, and grats on a free DS.
