Forums - Sales - Poll: Will the Wii pass the PS2 in sales?

Too early to call.
I predict it sales wont slow down until the next generation hits but that doesnt necessarily mean it will pass the PS2 for two reasons.

1. The PS2 picked up speed later in its life
2. The generation may be shorter than the last one

So Im not going to call it, polling this kind of thing is pointless anyway in my opinion.

So did the Gamecube and Xbox. It's called a price cut. There was a thread only a few weeks ago discussing the mass market price level and someone posted pie charts of the sales for each console for each price.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I think it's too early to tell.

That said, the Wii is selling faster than the PS2 at this point in its life, and successful consoles tend to sell better and better over the course of their lifetimes (look at the PS2 sales).

I would have to wager that it is indeed possible, and I would bet that yes, the Wii can surpass the PS2's worldwide lifetime sales.

Indeed, but the Wii started at a lower price so will price cuts have less effect for it? Thats what I was trying to imply.

No

Wow Soriku, you are not creative in your topics AT ALL.

I swear you've made this exact same thread before, and if not, at least 5 threads similar to this.

No, I don't think the Wii will receive the same level of 3rd party support that the PS2 did. It is too different from the other systems for some of the big title multi-plats to help it out as well.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Too early to tell, but simply put: No. It is too reliable.

HOWEVER, if they update with a new model every year(1st-DVD Playback / 2nd-HDD / 3rd-new colors / 4th re-design it smaller) They could get enough re-purchases to match the number of re-purchases of PS2 due to broken console or slim upgrade.

Figure added to my sig:

If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (108.4m) by...
2008: (019 wks) +3195.3%, 2009: (071 wks) +0781.8%, 2010: (122 wks) +0413.2%
2011: (176 wks) +0255.7%, 2012: (228 wks) +0174.6%, 2013: (280 wks) +0123.6%
2014: (332 wks) +0088.6%, 2015: (385 wks) +0062.6%, 2016: (437 wks) +0043.3%

It is entirely possible for the Wii to surpass the PS2 if it can increase its sales and hold onto it for the duration of the generation. Even with a doubling of current sales, holding onto that number would see the Wii passing the PS2 sometime in early 2013, at 6.5 years into the console's life.

I predict the Wii will sell 176 million consoles in it's lifetime. You heard it here first.
