Because before K2, hype did not exist, therefore, no other game has been talked about quite like it.

| Gilgamesh said: Why would Sony want to waste money on marketing games, when they have Playstation fanboys lol I mean seriously every big Playstation game that comes out gets hyped so much that you'd be considered living under a rock if you never heard of the game. Killzone 2 has got to be one of the most hyped games of all time, it's been nothing but articles and threads for about a month now and there's still about 20 days left till it's release lol No wonder Sony doesn't spend much on marketing lol |
Maybe they should. Considering their viral "AllIWantForXmasIsAPSP.com" campaign, the fanboys might as well do it. This way, Sony can deny they were responsible for any horrible stuff done. Stuff like the supposed Killzone 2 Superbowl ad, would be an example of things Sony can deny.
Plausible deniability. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Well yeah basically the only people buying their games are the 'hardcore' fan crowd who've been following those games and know everything there is to know about them anyway.. They shouldn't market to those people, it's kind of a waste of money, but they do. At least Microsoft make an attempt to cater to a different audience. No flaming intended.

Cater to a different audience? How do you explain LBP then? I doubt the folks who have pre-ordered K2 the supposed hardcore you mention will go for that, Pixeljunk monsters and the likes. IMO MS are just as bad with their audience targetting, if you had said Nintendo I might have agreed.
