I've been checking the previews for & just read the review to House of the Dead:Overkill.I have a good guess but what's an on-rails shooter,does any1 prefer it to a FPS and is RE:UC an on rails shooter?

Picture it like this.

You are on a roller coaster, you have no control over where you go but you can look around as you wish.

That is an on rails shooter.

I think you can consider Umbrella Chronicles as an on-rail shooter.

An arcade shooter. You only control the gun. Like Time Crisis.

It's when you only control your head's movement. Easiest way to explain. You don't control distance, you only move your gun, like arcade games. They move on their own.

House of the Dead (1 and 2), Umbrella Chronicles, all those games make your character appear in first person, and all you move is your gun's pointer since your body moves as the game advances.
