I like EDGE. With all these perfect scores around it's cool to have at least one source with reviews and scores like that.

As I finished reading this thread up to this point, I have reached this conclusion about gaming scores (and finding myself in agreement with Zero Punctuation to some extent): Scores for games are now something fanboys on forums use as scoring devices to justify their egos.  They aren't a measure of much of anything.  They can, IN A CONTEXT, give a quick benchmark.  One is FAR better reading what the reviewer has to say about the game, and let that be.  Also, know WHY a game is rating high or low.

BUT, to think there is some universal standard for scoring is ABSURD.  Metacritic and Gamerankings are NOT some universal scoreboard for tracking the greatness of the game.  It is a collection of opinions, with scores not based on some universal standard.

In regards for Halo Wars, I would give it an 8, because does have waypoints, and LOTS of polish (well, basing this on the demo).  If it didn't have waypoints, I would give it a seven.  I have played better RTS on PCs.  I applaud the attempt to get an RTS on a console, but Halo Wars is not all that.  Haven't tried KZ2 demo (my PS3 is borrowed and I am not in Europe).  Considering I have everything, for the game to push 9.5 or higher it better do EVERYTHING right, and bring something new to the table.  If it happens to merely execute perfectly, it gets a 9 for me.  I would drop it lower if it is lacking stuff.  And if I were doing a review, I would expect people to READ what I wrote and understand where I am coming from.

If all people are going to do is throw reviewer scores in some pot and simmer an average, I hope all reviewers conspire to give EVERY game a 10, a 1, a 7 or whatever, so this score method is thrown out.  Even executives are now basing decisions on the average score for a game on Metacritic, and it is sickening.

Stop being a junkie here.  Stop worrying what reviews are.  Is your life SO dependent upon Halo Wars or Killzone 2 averaging over 90 in metacritic?  If they fall short, then what?  How about finding a few reviewers you trust, and base your opinion on them?  Not the net average.  Oh, use Metacritic for a fly over, to get the high and low, but STOP making the cumulative score out to be something.  Averages over the Internet have less standards governing them then gamer points on the XBox system do.  Think on that a second.

I doubt we will ever get a game good enough on the PS3 to shut up a few people. You would have thought that they would finally have less time to cook up stories of 'biasedness' and 'conspiracies' and actually play the amazing game they are so busy defending based on ONE review. And the attempt to bring down other games is sickening.

I do not believe Edge is bias, just unbelievably inconsistent, I understand that different reviewer might have different opinion, but for the sake of continuity, they should at least standardize their scores.

 That's a pretty accurate prediction for an inconsistent magazine, I'm being honest. *rolls eyes*

Edge aren't even fanboys. They're just idiots. They hate every game ever made, unless it's made in England or by Bungie.

They despise exclusives, and despise multiplats even more. They just despise everything. They're worse than Variety.

EDIT: Also, they are completely unforgiving. For each flaw in the game, no matter how minor, they'll take off an entire point. Sure, Conquest wasn't brilliant, but a 2? What the hell is wrong with these people? Ah well, a 7 is pretty good from Edge. That is what they gave Metroid Prime 3 and Fallout 3...

They also seem to think all shooters should be Halo, and all Halo games should be shooters. And if it's made by EA, it sucks too. I think EA should try making a non-shooter Halo game. It would probably get a negative six.

The sad thing is that this is probably a "valid review".

Oh, and at everybody saying "It's their opinion", hello, this is perhaps the largest game review magazine in the world. Their opinion is irrelevant.

How do you know it's going lower ? You have the ability to predict review scores or something ?
