i have great respect for Jesus, even though i don't think he is the son of god
I don't know whether Jesus actually existed or not (I know there has been evidence to show that he did), and I certainly don't believe he was a son of any god, or anything, nor had any mystical powers.
And you know what, I don't think it really matters. Jesus is such a powerful man/idea that he/it still influences lives today, and that those influences are generally for the good of man kind and for the planet, and the influence will continue for many years to come*
*About 5-10, then I'll publish my own book dealing with all the issues of society ranging from outrageous cinema ticket prices to how to ethically change a nappy (diaper) of someone else's child.

Some of you will know that I am an atheist. But I think the label is kind of unfair. I just simply do not believe in the guy in the sky. Plus I don't like to conform to a set of rules; I decide my own morals. I do not hate religion and I agree with a lot of its teachings (I also disagree with some). I think Jesus was a great teacher and liberator of his time. His "turn the other cheek" came roughly 2000 years before Ghandi's (another great man) "an eye for an eye". Although alot of his teachings now seem 'backwards', they were very liberal for his time. Sometimes I wish there wasn't a religion in his name. He deserves to be remembered as one of the greatest teachers/thinkers in human history. He simply doesn't get that respect from the non-christian community. This thread is just for christians and non-christians to say that they respect/love/worship Jesus. A great liberator/teacher of his time. |
Jesus was
A. A Nut
B. A Fraud
C. The Son of God
You cannot say you repest Jesus, yet deny God. Jesus many times claims to be diety, and the Son of God. So either he was telling the truth (what I believe), a wacko who thought he was a god, or a fraud trying to take advantage of people. I cannot see how an athiest can think Jesus was even a decent person.
Also, I do not take credit for this, C.S. Lewis wrote something similiar to whay I came up with.

You can still understand, and even respect, someones opinions and beliefs even if you disagree with them.

As deities go he was pretty good, not the best, but pretty much up there. For me the deities go...
1. Dalai Lama (He looks like my uncle, also I know he exists because I have seen him on TV and stuff)
2. The flying spaghetti monster
3. Imhotep
4. Jesus
5. Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh (this is true, he has a cult that worships him)
6. Dido (not the singer)
I like the whole love and peace vibe and he is very friendly with a nice message.
Jesus' ideas only are applicable for people with conscience and intelligence, they're the only people that could realize that if we live under Jesus' advices the world would be a much better place. But no, there so many bad people in this world (some that even say they were sent by Jesus) that it's impossible for the world to be as Jesus wanted. Jesus is good because he can teach you to live a better life, but he's bad because people can use him as a weapon for destruction and hate agaisnt othe cultures...
