The PS2 has been running ahead of both the XBox and PS3 for a long time now. And a major innovation has been announced for the PS2 that comes out this Christmas. I think that would mean they are still a legitimate console thats still kicking and alive. If the Wii is counted as next gen because of its controls and not its graphics how is the PS2 not "next gen" if it has similiar graphics and offers the same type control scheme?? Software totals for THIS week had PS2 at 2x the sales of the Wii.

uhh thats my point the PS2 is still outselling the XBox360 and PS3 so how are you proclaiming that last gen is over??

The PS2 is not like XBox1, its still alive and selling well. Both hardware and software.

 Interesting quote, so you're saying then you predict that the 360 will be a distant 3rd and the PS3 will be a very close second to the Wii?  I'm just going by launch dates =P

Because we Wii fans like to kick on Sony when they are down OR that PS2 has an anounced succesor on the market OR/AND that PS2 has been out for seven years?

So now i'm pretty much convinced that the Wii is now the official winner this gen. Unless of course all the Wii's in the world blow up and nobody buys them anymore...

But this is a smack in the face to all those doubters and unfaithful 3rd parties. If there isn't any developer that hasn't jumped to join Nintendo yet, they better do it now and take advantage. Nintendo is realeasing its big 3 this year, so they don't have much "mature" killer apps (that aren't new IP's) to put out in the future giving 3rd parties a chance to put out a potential AAA Wii title without fear of Nintendo.

Canada is indeed an interesting market. I'd like to see "America" broke down into "US", "Canada" and "Other America" as we have with "Other". That should be doable for hardware at least... Can't you put a word up with ioi?

I know, but the next big crossover will be Others and shortly thereafter the UK (the single biggest market in Others) - both before the holidays. US/America will take longer than that. It may even beat the Cube worldwide before it beats the 360 in america (I don't know, haven't really looked into it).

PS: my post was also a not at all funny attempt at going from less (World) to more specific (UK), where it usually goes the other way around. Sorry about that.

The "major" hardware innovation you speak is from 3rd party peripheral maker in2games.  It's not from Sony and isn't a default control scheme.  It also requires an individually tailored controlller for each individual game at $60.00 each.  Hardly a similar system I'd say.

The Wii is part of the 7th generation of home consoles just as the PS3 and X360 are.   A consoles generation is determined by launch release and a successor/predecessor system.  It has absolutely nothing to do with processing power, control methods or anything else fanboys love to use as a basis for debating which console generation Wii belongs too.

Your point doesn't do anything of the sort.  The Wii is the leader of the 7th generation of consoles and even outsells last generations winnner, PS2, on a weekly basis.   Software sales for PS2 were up last week because of Madden.  You can't look at a tiny slit in the timeline and make broad stroke statements from it like that.  You may as well be using Amazon charts for your facts.

Perhaps you aren't trolling but your ignorance to the facts doesn't make it any better.
