Forums - Gaming - resident evil remakes

hello everyone.  not sure if there is another thread about this somewhere, but in light of resident evil 5 coming out in a month, i started wondering what it would be like to play the older games but with the newer control scheme that the series uses.  i never played the games prior to RE 4 so it was hard for me to transition from so much more freedom when aiming and the viewpoint of the fourth game to the gameplay style of the older games.  because of this, i haven't played the originals very much.  i remember hearing a little while ago that RE 2 might be remade with the same point of view as 4 and it sounded interesting to me.  i couldn't play a remake in the style of the gamecube version of 1 because the aiming is limited in my opinion compared to what i'm used to.  i would play any remake of the RE games if they were done in the style of 4 and i hope that this happens one day.  so what are your opinons on it.  if they are remade, is it better to remake it with the original style gamplay or to adapt it a RE 4 style gameplay? also, i'm not saying the traditional gameplay was bad, just harder for me to play on.

I loved the original controls. The way that the camera never moved it was always fixed. It made the game seem so much more creepy. Don't get my wrong I love the RE4 game and the controls are great but I really liked the old style of fixed camera position on a game like Resident Evil. I wish I still had my copy of Resident Evil I would probably play through it again. The newer games, especially the RE5 demo seem to have lost that creepy scary survival feel that the first game really brought to the table. No game has ever made me scared or panicked like when the dogs bust through the window in RE1 while you are walking down the hallway.

yeah i know what you mean.  i never found RE 4 to be that scary except a few parts.  it felt more like a thriller as opposed to horror.

I also miss the sense of every little item I picked up was important. Every bullet was needed and every herb and even the type writer ink was so valuable. Not being able to save the game every 10 seconds or having any check points made the sense of "survival" so much more real. In games now days it almost makes it pointless to care if you die or not because you just start right back up pretty much where you died. If RE brought back this concept of limited resources(no money or upgrades) and no check points/unlimited saves then I think It would make the game much more scary/survivally/horrorifying/whatever.

if they can make the RE4 style fit perfectly into a suvival horror game i will be happy, RE4 is an action game, its control scheme is definitly superior ro prior REs(especially on wii), but its gameplay is waterdown so it can be an adrenaline pumped action game. where are the mindbending puzzles, the dog through window or even the ammo conserving.
