Forums - Nintendo - 2009:Make or break for the wii

2009 will be a key year in the wii's life time.  It is already evident that the wii has won this gen sales wise.  Be this as it may, we are yet to see truly ground breaking, awe inspiring third party efforts.  In early 2009 wii owners are going to recieve more high quality third party games than they have in the 2 and a half years the console has been out (anybody who's reading this thread should know which games I'm refering to).  Will these games sell, or will they crash and burn like Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki and other such games?  And if they fail to sell, will it be the end of quality third party support for the wii, and Q3 and Q4 line up?  I personally think we are at a very important junction in the wii's life time right now.  Your thoughts.

Love your Pirates DK sig!

No, I don't think it's make or break this year. With these economic times I think they will either succeed on the Wii or go out of business all together. Also, lets not forget that 3rd party Japanese publishers have already made Wii their main platform.

@soriku: hopefully =P

2008 2009 will be the year of the Wii.

Right... No More Heroes included in that?

But yes, 2009 is an important year for Wii and core efforts by 3rd party.

The Wii has already made it. It would take something really catastrophic to stop it at this point.

Same shtick, just different criteria.

Boom Blox did not crash and burn. It's getting a sequel for goodness' sake!

how much difference is there between ZW release, BB, de Blob and SW wii? A lifetime of difference, games are selling a lot faster now.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
