My friend wants to buy a console(not a Wii), but doesn't know if he should or not. He isn't sure if he should buy a console now that its already been over 3 years into the gen. He is worried that the next gen console will hit stores by 2011. What do you guys think?

i think 2012. i also think, unless its coming out in a few months and there are games he wants to play then it shouldnt matter. so i suggest you tell your friend not to purchase a console since he doesnt want to play the games on it he just wants a console.

I don't think it will hit anytime soon personally. The cost for development are very high right now and a new gen would push it beyond even this. What types of games does he like? Play it by whats out for each console now and what you are expecting to come out.

If he's waited this long into the generation to think about buying a console, I don't see why he's worried about a new generation coming along in a few years time.

Well, he is interested in Action/adventure, he loved GTA IV and Fable II when I let him play those games.

Well he pretty much wants a 360 because probably almost everyone he knows through me has a 360, and a few have a PS3. And obviously wants some games to play on it lol

Ninja gaiden, GTA IV and Fable II should hold him for awhile. Thats alot of gameplay time right there.

He should get a PS3 cause you won't see a PS4 anytime soon!

He should definitely buy a console.

Tell him to look at both console's game libraries and see which he prefers. Also tell him to consider free online/Live/Blu-ray/Netflix etc.

My general theory is that if someone doesn't know whether to get an Xbox 360 or PS3 they probably should just get an Arcade 360 because its cheaper to start with and they can build up from there without risking too much on something they may dislike. Pretty much cheaper is better, I noticed that people who tend to get PS3s tend to just want PS3s in these threads.
