Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo set to benefit from publisher downsizing

As I've said once before, there are consequences for not supporting the market leader.

Iwata seems to be a much more level headed individual than Yamauichi. Though for the record that guy was the man lol.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Why is it that the recession has benefitted so much that i hold dear? First it gets a democrat in the White House, then it empowers my choice in platforms

It makes me feel bad, benefitting from tragedy.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

If it helps, you can tell yourself that The US hasn't seen two consecutive fiscal down turns thus isn't in a recession, I don't think I've ever heard Iwata reffer to the US situation currently as a recession. I believe he did recognize it as a future possibility or eventuality.

The only question remains:  MH3 and DQX aside, which 3rd party games are going to be megahits for Wii?  (Talking of Japan, of course.)  Does Arc Rise Fantasia have a chance?

Samurai Warriors 3. The others will help but aren't big...

Btw, did anyone see this?

Third party sales ALONE in December almost outsold PS3 and 360 1st + 3rd party sales COMBINED. That's just insane. I bet there'll be many major announcements this year.

Samurai Warriors 3?  Wow, did THAT one slip my mind.  How big is that?

I have no doubts about DQ or MH if they are that big, but I wonder if Arc is more in tune with the American market rather than Japan's.  (I do expect it to do better than the recent Fragile, since it's a genuine RPG.)

Wow, that is pretty nice.  Hopefuly this WILL guarantee major support, from Japan, UK and US combined.

I dunno. Most publishers don't really seem to get the Wii. I wonder if most of these titles are just going to barely make back their costs or seeing only modest success. Without the hype train marketing style of the HD consoles I'm not sure they know how to market games to the expanded audience let alone create games they would enjoy. Marketing to them is going to be far more difficult for publishers as well as costlier in the end which isn't going to help with game budget bottom lines.

Maybe i'm just too skeptical.

You can be skeptical, that's your own stance, just wanted to put out there that Iwata's track record for saying something that wasn't soon realized reality is nill. He doesn't spin twist or slide, it's just strait real talk. =P

I suppose I should be more specific in that I do believe what Iwata is saying and it's already happening. The Wii will have greater attention from publishers which will surely help Nintendo and the Wii.

While i suppose it's off point I'm simply voicing concerns that many publishers are going to suffer even more in the transition due to their resistance to change and complete confusion at the expanded audience. Given that there will also be increased competition as far as titles and marketing goes this isn't really going to be the low cost savior most make Wii development out to be. Publishers that can't adopt will die and I feel we need more not less of them in the coming years.

3rd parties used to make shovelware on Wii that makes loads to finance their "blockbusters" on the PS3/360. Those games have a much greater chance of not breaking even. That model wasn't the best idea from the start, and is now made obvious due to the economic downturn.

They'd obviously start putting more effort into Wii games since it's much easier to profit, and would profit much more when it sells a lot.
