Forums - Sales - How long (if ever) will it take for Killzone 2 to surpass R2 sales?

600k first week, dropping in halfs, I'd say 6 weeks. If everything goes perfect, 3 weeks.

People really got the wrong end of the stick here with the 1.1 million pre-orders, that is to stores not consumers! We are not going to see 1.1 million first week in EU, it is simply that the stores have ordered 1.1 million so Killzone 2 will sell at least 1.1 million in EU but not first week.

@ RPG: true, but that's what most people are basing it on, whether it is to go for 2 months or for 1 day :)

And to answer your other question: GG has said that they'd be happy with 2.5 million sales, so that might be some clue (probably earning back their spending money + some profit).

And those 1.1 million so far in Europe will make Sony happy, since those are sales already (if they are ordered by retail). So if the US adds to that tally significantly, they might already be rather close to their goal of 2.5 million.

If 2.5 million is what Guerrilla said, it is pretty obvious that they are being as conservative as possible. 2.5 million would be pretty terrible lifetime sales for Killzone 2, 3.5 million must be what they are really expecting.

That's 1,1 M of additional preorders from shops,

Day one sales of US+ PAL regions should be above 1.3 M Resistance2 have

For those that are interested, a preorder book is a quantity listing of retailer preorders outside of the standard first distribution shipment.

For example, game company A will order 500,000 units as initial shipment, usually more than 6 weeks before launch date. These numbers are marked as inventory for sale only from this particular date. As the game approaches launch, preorders increase, which will require inventory stock from this shipment to cover when it lands. When this inventory stock is preordered heavily, the amount available for the sales period become too low. As a result, a pre-order book is done to allow for these extra orders, outside of this first initial shipment.

Mr Reeves has thus stated that retail preorders worldwide (presumably) now exceed 1.1 mill. If it was Europe only, Sony would be screaming it from the rooftops.

It does not represent initial shipment numbers.

In all honesty...I think it will beat R2, but not quickly and not by much. It really depends on how much marketing Killzone 2 gets.

Considering the supposed pre-order figures, it will be past in a month

If we used the $60 million budget for Killzone 2 which is said to be on the higher side in terms of estimations, how many sales would be needed to break even?

It really depends on how many of the $60 (are games usually fully priced in NA?) Sony get back, my guess would be $20 at least as they published and made the game. So 3 million sales to break even, add advertising and all other factors........4 million to break even? This is what happens when someone with no idea on the gaming industry starts with his guesstimations. :P

Officiel budget is 25 millions $ for KZ2. It's the second biggest PS3 game budget after God Of War 3 wich is 30 millions $.

I don't know where you've heard 60 millions $ ....

@ potzo: I've seen someone say 25 and give a link to an article from 2006. Do you have any current articles that would back up your statement?
