@ RPG: true, but that's what most people are basing it on, whether it is to go for 2 months or for 1 day :)
And to answer your other question: GG has said that they'd be happy with 2.5 million sales, so that might be some clue (probably earning back their spending money + some profit).
And those 1.1 million so far in Europe will make Sony happy, since those are sales already (if they are ordered by retail). So if the US adds to that tally significantly, they might already be rather close to their goal of 2.5 million.
