Super Mario Bros. was, up untill roughly the 3rd January 2009, the best selling game of all time. Then Wii Sports pushed it down to 2nd.

Now, how far will it be pushed down?

Will Wii Play beat it?

Wii Fit?

Wii Sports Resort?

Mario Kart Wii?

New Super Mario Bros., Nintendogs or any DS game?

Well... Here's my view on it.

Wii Play should beat it. It's 19.5M short, and it keeps a rough 35-45% penetration rate (it actually kept 45% for 2008). Piece of cake... We're rather looking at 60M for this one.

Wii Fit should beat it. It's 25M short, but it should sell at least half of that in 2009 (that's extremely on the low side... Frankly - I see it selling 17-19M in 09)

Mario Kart Wii.... Has a shot... But I doubt it can do it. It's 26M short. We're looking at 9-10M for 09, and it would have to see very small drop-offs to make it. Still... It has a fairly decent chance.

Wii Sports Resort. I have no bloody clue, but it's a major in the Wii franchise. Sure as heck has a shot. 

Then there's the DS games...

These games won't beat SMB. Their goal is to beat the best handheld game. Pokemon Red/Blue at 31.4M

To beat Pokemon, Nintendogs needs 9.5M. It sold 4.5M in 08, and it appears to be selling at equal levels in 09. It will do it. Should sell 4M + in 09, and 3M + in 10. Then 3M more should be possible quite easily. 

To beat Pokemon, NSMB would need 13.5M. It sold 4.8M in 08, and as it is now starting to be more heavily bundled, it ought to sell 5M in 09. That would leave 8.5M, something I believe should be possible. It's a close call... Kinda MKWii esque.

Then there's the last DS game... Brain Training. It sold 5.3M in 08. It needs 14.4M to beat Pokemon Blue/Red, and it is in the same boat as NSMB really.

Then there's 3 games that fight for beating Duck Hunt at 28.3M. I believe they have a shot at Tetris at 30.3M, but Pokemon Blue/Red is out of the league.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. Needs 12M for Duck hunt, 14M for Tetris. It sold just 3.3M in 08, and it seems like it will fail to make 3M in 09. Will not beat Duck Hunt. Heck, it might have some trouble at beating Pokemon Gold/Silver at 23.1M (needs 7M), but it should just barely manage that.

Mario Kart DS. Needs 14.5M for Duck Hunt, and 16.5M for Tetris. Sold 4.5M in 08, but is thanks to MKWii raising and raising. Could make 5M in 08, and I believe it has a shot at Duck Hunt (kinda like MKWii vs SMB). Will probably not beat Tetris.

And Finally... More Brain Training. Needs 15M to beat Duck Hunt. 17M for Tetris. Sold 4M in 08, and is dropping. Won't make any of them. Will beat Diamond/Pearl though

So the list I see, is.

1. Wii Sports (duh)

2. Wii Play

3. Wii Fit (has a shot at Wii Play)

4. Wii Sports Resort (could drop like hell...)

5. Mario Kart Wii (could drop behind SMB, but could also beat WSR)

6. Super Mario Bros. (Could beat MKWii and WSR)

7. Nintendogs (fairly certain)

8. New Super Mario Bros. (Could drop behind both BT and Blue/Red)

9. Brain Training (Could beat NSMB, but could also drop behind Blue/Red)

10. Pokemon Blue/Red (could beat both NSMB and BT)

11. Tetris (fairly certain)

12. Mario Kart DS (could drop below Dutch... I mean Duck hunt)

13. Duck Hunt (could beat MKDS)

14. More Brain Training 

15. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

I just like filling up the forums with overly long threads that nobody reads. Makes me feel important.

i only see wii play beating SMB, wii sports resort and mkwii might get close though
