Forums - Microsoft - More JRPGs to Xbox 360: JRPG Dev Announces Agreement with Xbox 360

Not a huge place like your thinking, but Nippon Ichi had a press announcement that they are now developing Xbox 360 games.

Nippon Ichi is a hardcore RPG developer/publisher in Japan. Their primary titles include the uber-SRPG series "Disgaea". Disgaea 2 sold somewhere around 150,000 units in Japan, and about 300,000 worldwide or so.

Other titles include Altier Iris, Phantom Brave, and a few other games. They produce RPG's almost exclusively, and most are Strategy RPGs. This is great news if your like me, and crave more RPGs to your X360.

So what does this mean? Disgaea 3 might either be multiported to Xbox 360, or X360-exclusive which would be rather huge, as the NI fanbase is rather rabid.

I thought disgaea 3 was already announced for the PS3... so it may me multiplatform.

Still good news for the xbox i guess.

JRPGs for the X360 IS good news.

Either way, a MP version of Disgaea would be good for NI: That way the PS3 gets the sales in Japan, and gets the sales in the US.

Hopefully they announce some exclusives too.

Just when I thought jRPG developers were giving up on the console. Has any game of the genre actually sold well on the 360? I honestly haven't been following it closely enough to say for sure, but I can only think of flops so far.

I think given the size of the installed base in Japan, the current rpg's have sold well.

<edit> well here's the numbers for Trusty and Blue so far. I guess Blue Dragon sold well.

360 installed base     430,724

Trusty Bell 9 weeks     67,668
Blue Dragon 36 weeks     195,466

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

I would hope there's at least one exclusive title planned, otherwise it's just a waste of money.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

For the X360, there haven't been enough JRPGs of any various caliber to say if they've done well or not....There just isn't enough information.

Phantasy Star Universe did rather poorly. It sold around 100,000 units in the US + Japan (and maybe another 30-40k in Europe). However, PSU was a cheap crap port to the X360 that was no different than the PS2 version.

Enchanted Arms fared a little bit better on the X360. It did rather bad in Japan (around 22,000), but did quite well in the US and Europe. It sold around 120,000-150,000 copies in the US, and another 60,000-75,000 in Japan for a grand total of 204,000-250,000 units. I would say that the number wasn't too bad.

Outside of these 2 JRPGs, there really is no way to know. Blue Dragon isn't out yet. Having said this, WRPGs have fared magnificantly on the X360. Oblivion will sell well above 2m copies on the X360 (2m before a GOTY edition is insane). And M:UA sold around 750,000 copies on the X360.

Yeah good analysis mrstickball, I also sent you a friend invite on Xbox Live, I hope you get it. But also I'm really looking forward to these RPG's.

I don't have XBL at my home, so it'll take me a few days to accept the invite, but I will certainly accept it ASAP.

Well they've only been sold in Japan so far (except for the one Mrstickball mentioned), where between 3-4% of the Xbox 360's installed base is.  I'm sure when they're released in the rest of the World where 96-97% of 360s are they might do better.
