Forums - Gaming - PS3/360 Multiplats only cost 10% extra to make

I think what he is saying is that it's an extra 10% the company could do without. Costs are already high, last thing they want is more. One platform would be preferable.

I would however argue if there was only a 360 or only a ps3, the market would be more then 10% smaller, as the two consoles although similiar do both push gaming further together then if they were on their own. Therefore, I'd say the situation benefits developers and publishers moreso.

I see some people have mistaken my meaning. I'm not saying they're making the wrong choice. I'm saying they're in a shitty situation in which they have to make that choice(which I've already said is the right choice!).

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I think stof is saying that yes they'll make more money but they'll have to spend more in the first place when some companies can't really afford to spend that but the potential profit is too much to ignore.

Well I'm just sitting here really confused. Where are these companies that can afford to make a 20 million dollar game but can't afford the extra 2 million to port the game and get more profit? I'm still completely missing the point apparently.

GO MONTANA!

I'm still with montana.

I'm quite sure that if a dev needs funds for a multi-platform and they have a halfway-decent title under their belt, they will have no problem convincing the moneyman to give more money, if they just showed figures of GTA, AC, and other multiplats.

haha for once the mods are chatting rubbish. well one anyway. just proves that they are human after all

Well EA, THQ, Capcom, Sega and just about every other company is laying people off and posting losses right now, so I'm sure they don't like the idea of mandatory extra costs. But again, I'm not saying they shouldn't go multi plat. I've said a couple times that they are making the right choice. I'm saying that this gen, in which game costs are considerably higher already, there's also a mandatory extra fee for being multi-plat.

6th gen - our game cost 5 million to make and sold 2 million copies on the PS2

7th gen - our game cost 23 million to make... no wait 25.3 million and sold 2.4 million on the PS3 and 360.

See the shitty generation difference?

Again, I'm not criticizing dev choices (I thought I'd made that pretty clear), I'm just saying that it's an extra costs at a really bad time for the industry. Don't you think that if the 360 had twice it's current user-base, we'd see a lot more 360 exclusives?
