I dunno about after the bridge part, but there's definitely a burning guy before it. The bridge part itself is pretty funny - you see the guy with the rocket launcher get slaughtered by the turrets. You'd think that as soon as you run out there you'd have to stay in cover, then it turns out the turrets don't even aim for you unless you get ridiculously close. Then when you do get close, you see that the Helghast are just having a jolly time shooting at the ground. In fact, you don't even need the rocket launcher - just shoot the barrels abit with your rifle.
This game gets nitpicked alot, and after finally playing the demo I finally see why - the amazing graphics and details stand out as soon as you start, then it makes you wanna look closer at things. It's then that you start to notice all the minor issues.
When it comes to immersion, I have mixed thoughts - I really dislike the 3rd person views that the game uses sometimes, such as when you're first landing in the demo. I would've felt much more immersed if it was still a 1st person cam that you can control. Making that landing sequence skippable seemed abit lame - it's really nice to look but still really short. My friend who came over to play the demo didn't even see it. He skipped it by accident (most buttons seem to skip it) and I don't think he even realized that he did skip it.
There's also one other thing that kills the immersion for me, and it's extremely common in games - when a character's talking and all the sound/music is turned down so you can hear him clear. Rather than forcing that person to realisitically talk louder to be audible over the war going on, they reduce the game's volume so they can get away with talking in a normal somewhat relaxed tone. It's extremely stupid and I've played tons of games that do this. I
Now the "feel" of your character - I love it. The way most people described it were spot on. Now there's one thing that I hate, and I'm sure it's been brought up a million times now: Aiming. It's slow, clunky. I've personally never held a gun before, but I'd be willing to bet they overexaggerated it. It would've made much more sense to change the ironsights movement speed based on the weapon your using - even with all the weight he might be carrying, it shouldn't be too hard to quickly aim a pistol. I'm expecting what they have now to stay in the full game, but I'll say now that I really dislike it. I'm all for competetive play, I love it, but if I had my way: Most guns while using ironsights would move as fast as those in CoD, but with MUCH more recoil. In CoD1, the aiming/looking was fast and smooth....it didn't try to give you a feel of weight or realism, but it was the massive recoil of the guns where it truly shined and made them a challenge to master. It felt good.
When it comes to me and my PS3 so far: I hate R2, I don't really play LBP, I ended up choosing Grid over Motorstorm 2, MGS4 was amazing till I got slightly bored of it, my multiplats get much more play than my PS3 exclusives.....so yeah, KZ2 is a big game for me. I bought a PS3 because based on the info I gathered, the game has so much stuff that fits my tastes so perfectly - I can't imagine any 360 FPS satisfying me like KZ2 potentially can.
I thought the demo was great, but I wasn't absolutely blown away. Definitely waiting to try the full thing. I've seen the demo level about so many times in random vids and I personally never thought it seemed that great. The demo feels abit weaker once you get to the warehouse section.
Few random things:
- An option to toggle the level of motion blur on weapons would be nice.....I like checking out the nice small details. Finally managed to get the single shot rifle from the guy on the roof and I was dissapointed that it uses so much motion blur, it covers up half the stuff on it.
- Sprinting feels awesome. It's the feel and animations. I also like how they did the opposite of what R2 did - rather than zooming the camera in very slightly, it zooms out. It made sprinting in close-quarters areas in R2 slightly annoying.
- Without the HUD disabled, there's some black parts on each corners of the screen that I personally found annoying. I actually didn't think there'd even be an option to disable the HUD, but I'll definitely be playing without it. I wish more games had the option.
- The hit-response system is really good, but was hoping that every single bullet would get some kind of reaction out of your enemies....some shots don't even make them flinch.
- More freedom over control layout would be nice. As much as I'd love to use the cover system, it's abit hard when using the Alternate 2 setup.
The game is really awesome. I honestly was expecting abit better, but it's really hard to judge it with such a short demo (and a bad way to end it). Still a 1st day buy for me. Also still looking foward to testing out the bots.
