Forums - Sony - Ohh Yeah Killzone 2 Demo Is Up!!!

Only demo I ever played more than once was the one for Heavenly Sword. Until today. I've played the Killzone 2 demo five times. Each experience was different, the Helghast did different things and reacted to my position with different strategies, sometimes well enough to catch me in a crossfire or kill me in melee if I had advanced too far ahead.

Killzone 2 is the best FPS I've ever played on a console. As a longtime PC gamer that has played FPS games since Wolf 3D/Doom, my biggest gripe with consoles was that they tried to imitate the 'feel' of PC shooters (in the early years because they were invariably all ports of PC shooters), making them frustrating to play because of the controller. I simply cannot get past the DualShock with FPS games. I've always needed that security blanket of the keyboard and mouse. The only console FPS I've ever played with any regularity is Unreal Tournament III on my PS3, and that's only because I have a BT keyboard and mouse to go with it. I own Resistance. Hate it.

KZ2 changed that. This is the first FPS I've played where I felt in control and wasn't looking around wildly because of that 'floating gun' feeling. It feels intuitive, and I didn't notice the 'drift' associated with Sev's inertia beyond the first minute or two of game play.

I know a lot of long time console FPS players will bemoan the controls for feeling sluggish. I think they feel perfect and level the playing field for people who haven't spent the last five years playing Halo or CoD or whatever else.

Really, my only complaint with the game is the menu. I have a big, old, 1080i Toshiba rear projection TV. Great TV, but RPTV's are known to 'snap' on occasion when an electrical arc occurs inside the cabinet and strikes the mirror. That screen tear on the menu when you move the cursor freaked me out. At first I thought my TV was about to die, then I thought maybe the convergence was going haywire and I had blown a board, or maybe there was something special about EU games that I had to tweak a setting for, then I started fretting that the bulbs were going out on my set and I was going to have to call a repairman to come replace all the bulbs and recalibrate the set.

Ah well. Glad everybody else reports the same on the menus. Killzone 2 will be a first day purchase for me.

hey guys... i've just installed the demo.. gonna play it in a sec. Just wanted to write, i saw the topic earlier, was at a mates house. Now it's 6 in the morning and i just got home from town... have to play the demo before i go to bed though hehe... XD I'll post my impressions soon ... btw it only took me like 5 mins to download lol.

Check out my game about moles ^

I just noticed that there are some things missing from the demo.

Where's the Helghast sign you can shoot in the warehouse?
Where's the guy on fire right after the bridge scene?

And there are a couple of things.

^i guess they didn't want people's head to explode from everything

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

Imo killzones aiming sensitivity was perfect for me. I was doing exceptionally well in the game though.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

The demo is pretty short. Here are my impressions

-Graphics are amazing, really makes you feel like you are in a war zone with everything that is going on.

-The AI (on normal) is not bad, but not great either. They always look for cover before shooting at you, but there was a couple of times where they could have shot at me while running for cover, instead they didnt and died w/o putting up a fight.

-The weight of the game is pretty ridiculous compared to other FPS, I felt VERY slow. It wasn't that the sensitivity was too low (like most games have that "weight" feel) because I changed it and it didn't "feel" right when I was moving around. That's gonna take some getting used to.

-Based on the feel, and the weight and how you move, I can tell that this game will not be for every one (unless they take their time to play it and get used to it, instead of judging it right off the bat). Hell, this game is so realistic that when u jump, u can still feel the weight instead of that floaty like jump that most (all?) FPS games have.

-Your buddies helping you out are pretty good, I did have to practically take care of the helghast myself, but I didn't feel like I "HAD" to. In fact, they took out a few that I didn't see coming.

-Alternate 2 is the best control setup imo :P

Bonus: at the end of the demo, they showed the ballet of death trailer, with words of reviews it has gotten, and it seemed great. Honestly, they have the best possible commercial they could have at the end of this demo, Sony PLEASE dont fuck this up.

Im going in for round 2 :)

Pretty much sums up my feelings as well. I cant wait to try out the multiplayer. I just hope I can get used to the controls.

  Tifa got MOVES!

The Demo itself is pretty fun imo.

From what i can tell,The game looks to be Incredible.

but some of us already knew that.

The demo was great except for the length but that's to be expected.
The graphics, sound and overall atmosphere in the game is outstanding.

The AI is smart and actually reacts to how you play which is always good.
The controls aren't what I'm used to and I felt that they were a bit slow. Having said that I suspect that as I get more of a feel for the game this will become a non issue.

Overall 9.5/10
Will be getting this game day 1. Will most likely pre-order it now :)

I had alot of fun, surprised to admit that I was quite disappointed when the demo ended. I wasn't really thinking about buying this game at all, but it's definitely a possibility now.

Music was exceptional, did well having the feel of a large battle that you are only a small piece of.  Also I liked the cover system, very well down for an FPS.

Some downsides: I wish there was more color variation and the voice overs are ridulously dumb.

...

Anyone tried the knife? Knife kills feel pretty cool! The hit response in this game is really cool!
