Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Shuts Up Gabe Newell!

@ priteshmodi - I know, I know, I simply disagree. Everything since HL2 seems like a shittier version of HL2. Everyone knows Valve could shit on a plate and walk away with a 90 Metacritic/Gamerankings score.

I can understand that point of view. Everything they've made since HL2 uses the same engine and the user inputs are handled with practically the same sensitivities and feeling. I just can't get enough of it though - it feels so balanced to me.

while battling with the slower read speed of Blu Ray

Like pointed out many times, the PS3 Blu-Ray drive on average is faster than the 360's DVD drive (DL).

Could you provide a link or something? As you can see from my post count I'm fairly new at becoming a regular on these forums. Thanks in advance!

I was being sarcastic about the whole MS lack of hard drive screwing Sony thing but I actually didn't know that PS3 Blu Ray has been shown to be faster on average.

Oh I'm not saying it will necessarily be inferior. Just that it's a bit ridiculous to say KZ2 shuts Valve up when it's a derivative game (borrowing from one of Valve's games as well as others) with good graphics.

That I strongly agree with. That's also an ignorant statement..but it seems fanboyism is becoming more and more blind by the day. No one has an open mind anymore - if something isn't on a platform that they like or have, it can't compare to something else that is. I'm not discrediting anything Valve has done..they put out good work, and I wish they were more receptive to the PS3. I just wish the fanboyism wasn't becoming so..I don't know..intense?

We don't know Valve's reasons for not targeting the PS3. Maybe they don't think the extra expense is worth it. Maybe they don't have room for expansion. Maybe it's cheaper to outsource ports to other parties who have already hired PS3 developers.

Do you honestly think it has nothing to do with the fact that he worked for MS for 13 years? Most ex-MS employees in my experience are usually completely brainwashed.

I don't know, but supposedly he left Microsoft to make more money and to do something he likes to do, so I'd be surprised if he didn't want to make money by supporting the PS3.

Do we even have an idea of the financial difference between letting EA port their games and Valve doing it themselves?

Here you go: http://forums.maxconsole.net/archive/index.php/t-65317.html

"2x Blu-ray Drive (72Mbps(9MB/s))
Single Layer (2x CLV) - Constant Linear Velocity (Same speed across entire disk)
Double Layer - Couldn't find any data but no games have been released on a double layer yet.

Entire Blu-ray Disk is read at 9MB/s.

12x DVD-Rom Drive SL (9.25MB/S-15.85MB/s(AVG ~8x(10.57MB/s) DL (4.36MB/s-10.57MB/s(AVG ~6x(7.93MB/s)
SL(DVD-5) 12x Max (5-12x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)
DL(DVD-9) 8x Max (3.3-8x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)"

What this doesn't factor however, is disc optimisation - developers putting more commonly used assets on the outside tracks of the disc to increase read times.  Also random access seek times is slower with CLV on Blu-ray.

Getting away with doing whatever you feel like is the point of money isn't it?

@alephnull: Depends on his psychology... That's why I said I don't know and you may be right.

Are people still calling Gabe Newell a Microsoft fanboy who is bashing Sony just because he is a hater?

I wash my hands of the conversation, and I suggest the same for anyone who rejects that viewpoint. Good day, gentlemen.

1.The game is only 5 gigs.

2.The Game isnt even pushing the 360 CPU

3.The Game isnt even pushing the 360 GPU

4.The Game was easy to dev for the 360

1.The game would be useless on BR and on top of that BR cost more than DVD.

2.Why would they put this game on PS3 if the (so called) better processor  isnt gonna be used at all?

3.This game wouldnt even push the PS3 GPU!

4.This game would have been delayed and had numerous bugs and framerate issues like other Value games.
