while battling with the slower read speed of Blu Ray

Like pointed out many times, the PS3 Blu-Ray drive on average is faster than the 360's DVD drive (DL).

Could you provide a link or something? As you can see from my post count I'm fairly new at becoming a regular on these forums. Thanks in advance!

I was being sarcastic about the whole MS lack of hard drive screwing Sony thing but I actually didn't know that PS3 Blu Ray has been shown to be faster on average.

Here you go: http://forums.maxconsole.net/archive/index.php/t-65317.html

"2x Blu-ray Drive (72Mbps(9MB/s))
Single Layer (2x CLV) - Constant Linear Velocity (Same speed across entire disk)
Double Layer - Couldn't find any data but no games have been released on a double layer yet.

Entire Blu-ray Disk is read at 9MB/s.

12x DVD-Rom Drive SL (9.25MB/S-15.85MB/s(AVG ~8x(10.57MB/s) DL (4.36MB/s-10.57MB/s(AVG ~6x(7.93MB/s)
SL(DVD-5) 12x Max (5-12x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)
DL(DVD-9) 8x Max (3.3-8x Full CAV) - Constant Angular Velocity (Speed Varies from edge to edge)"

What this doesn't factor however, is disc optimisation - developers putting more commonly used assets on the outside tracks of the disc to increase read times.  Also random access seek times is slower with CLV on Blu-ray.
