With the downturn in the economy, I began to wonder if any game stores (locations -- if not whole chains) might close.
This thought intensified when Gamestop shut down one of its locations in the Morgantown, WV area. While still listed in the store directory, the Morgantown Commons store closed for good on Feb. 1. It was one of the original Gamestops -- and still had the red-blue-yellow-green Funco-like lettering (it was set up when Babbages decided to compete against Funcoland before buying it).
Of course, there are still three Gamestops in the area, plus one independent store and one used game store. And there is a gamestop in the mall, just below the shopping center where the closed store was located.
Now before anyone makes a WV joke, Morgantown has the LOWEST unemployment rate among metropolitan areas in the country at 2.7% (http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/04/news/economy/metropolitan_unemployment/?postversion=2009020410). So the local economy is still thriving. Yet a store closed.
So I wonder if anyone has seen any other casulties -- besides Circuit City.
