Sony Owns Websites For ‘Killzone’ And ‘Killzone 3′ …But Not For ‘Killzone 2′ (Or 4 Or 5!)

You might assume Killzone2.com would be great place for the latest information on “Killzone 2″ straight from the source, but Sony doesn’t own the website, though they do own Killzone3.com (other people own Killzone4.com or Killzone5.com!) — wait, what?!

Killzone.com is a Sony-operated hub for the latest information on their “Killzone” franchise, and while it should have been natural for them to immediately lock up Killzone2.com, they didn’t — instead, Vegard Aure of GameDiscovery.com did.

Aure procured Killzone2.com in August 2003, more than year before the first “Killzone” was released on the PS2. Sony never asked to purchase the domain, Aure told MTV Multiplayer over e-mail, but Sony did obtain the rights to Killzone3.com in October 2003.

The rabbit hole goes deeper still. Sony doesn’t own Killzone4.com or Killzone5.com, either. Domain Seeking, an online business that buys and sells domain names it picks up, purchased Killzone4.com in July 2007. Killzone5.com, however, was purchased anonymously and its website currently points nowhere.

Killzone2.com’s owner doesn’t just operate an official sounding “Killzone” website. Aure also operates DevilMayCry2.com and DevilMayCry3.com.  Capcom has not contacted him either, he claims.

“I have never heard from any of them,” he said. “As long as the domains links to relevant content I guess they don’t mind.”

A Sony representative told MTV Multiplayer they would “look into it.”

Aure does not produce original content for most game websites he owns, instead relying on RSS feeds. “Unfortunately I have not had the time to develope [sic] most of the domains properly,” he explained.

For the record: Killzone6.com is still available, but for how long?

Well if Guirella use the same engine with tweaks and improvments they could easily release K3 in 1.5-2.5 years , a late 2011- early 2012 release is possible.

anywho it all depends how killzone 2 sells when killzone 3 will come out. if it does really good, lets say 3.5+ million then they could hold off killzone 3 as a launch title for the ps4. if it does anything lower we could see killzone 3 as a late 2011 title. we also gotta take into account that they might have another game they want to work on before finishing killzone and its world.

I really hate this bullshit domain name stealing. I mean, if you buy it, you better make something out of it and not just because you can re-sell it and make money.
