Can someone PLEASE explain to me what is going on with VGC's numbers on Wii's market share? I remember crearly that Wii's market share was increasing at a constante rate and at one point it was at 49.6%.

But, now, it has dropped to 48% and I don't understand how can that be, if the Wii has greater sales than the other two consoles EVERY WEEK. Shouldn't it keep going up in market share? how come it is dropping?

PLEASE EXPLAIN

Adjustments to old figures.... the data for the week ending 24th Jan which is the latest now might not be the same in 3 weeks time..... so yes the Wii continued to sell over 50% of sales through most of the holidays, but the gap wasn't as big as originaly thought which is why the old figures were adjusted down.

Had they been "correct" the first time around you would not have seen the Wii marketshare increasing as fast as it did.

yes the wii was just about at 50% but it was ADJUSTMENTS that made the number go lower, not sales numbers.  The market share has always been increasing.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

nintendo financials came out and VGC had the wii ~1 million units higher as of dec31 than what nintendo had shipped to retailers.

which caused a correction in VGC numbers for wii, which dropped the overall market share.

the wii still sold >50% market share the past year, just the guys running vg were off by ~3% on the high side as to how many did sell.

by ~june it should get to 50% in my opinion

My prediction: Wii will never reach the 50% mark, could even be below 40% by the end of this year.

That is impossible. If my math is correct, the PS3 and Xbox 360 would have to sell 20.5M combined over the remainder of the year -- and the Wii not sell another console.

Also, since its release, the Wii has had a 51.6 percent global market share. It just has taken time to overcome the 5.17M headstart that the Xbox 360 had.

The road to 50 percent may be slow, but it has been steady. And now developers are starting to see that (e.g., EA brinigng Dead Space to Wii and pledging more core games)

Had Nintendo been able to maintain the supply it probably would of had 50 by the end of feb. November blew their load. but really what a ridiculous OP.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

If you are stating that the Wii could be down to 40% market share by the end of this year than you either didn't do the math, or your math is horribly flawed. Do some math and look at what would have to happen for the Wii to drop below 40%.

It will all but certainly get to 50% in 2009, probably by August.

Wii Sports Resort would prove OP wrong

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I actually agree that it wont get above 50% market share, but i think his 40% number is a little off. But I can see I am in the minority.

Yes, yes you are.

There would have to be a cataclysmic event to stop this! Got any good ideas what that might be?

They will finally turn on the Large Hadron Collider which will create a black hole that will suck 20 million Wiis into oblivion.

True, but it would also swallow PS3s and 360s so it's still impossible for the Wii to drop below 40%.
