Forums - Nintendo - Why do people expect SMG2 before Zelda Wii?

I see comments and hear in podcasts people saying SMG2 possibly this year or just to come soon.

Why the hell would anyone think this? SMG came out after Twilight Princess there is no reason for another SMG to be released so soon.

Zelda Wii WILL come before SMG2. It wouldnt make sense for SMG2 to come before and people should really not be expecting this for at least another year.

lol I must have missed that.. I agree with you it wouldn’t make sense if it came out before Zelda Wii

Well SMG2 is a sequel to SMG that should be running off of the same engine.

Zelda Wii is supposedly redefining the series again, it might just be all about quality control since Nintendo is infamous for delaying. The SMG formula is tried and true, Zelda has to do a little more than what an SMG2 sequel has to.

Yes but this is Nintendo Claude, they are never in a hurry and this why SMG is considered one of the best games of all time.

I agree SMG2 would be great next year but if it took another 5 years to make another Mario as trippy as Galaxy i would wait.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

mmm Maybe cause after Twilight Princess, Team Zelda made Phantom Hourglass so the time of development on Zelda Wii and "SMG2" should be about the same.
Or at least i thought in that way

Unfortunately there is a rational. Beyond the fact that Zelda is almost always late in coming. With Galaxy Nintendo has the engine, textures, models, and other elements in place. So the time table for a sequel is relatively short. Twilight Princess was at best a port, and at worst an emulation. The game was created for the Cube after all. So it is not unreasonable to see both projects running neck and neck. Zelda had an extra year of development time. Mario can cut a year thanks to having so many components already developed.

Honestly I doubt you would see either title this year, and honestly I doubt you will see another Mario platforming game this generation. Nintendo still has a number of franchises to hit base on before they cycle back to Mario. Basically you get one Mario a generation, and two Zelda titles a generation. The last time I recall more then one Mario platforming game on a Nintendo console was the NES. There has only been one Nintendo Console that did not see two Zelda titles, and that was the SNES.

I expect Zelda next year, and then followed by another Zelda under two years later just in time to make the five year span. So basically I think you will see two Zelda titles before you see another Mario title. This is just a matter or precedent. Anyway it is not illogical. There is a sound reasoning if not an all inclusive one.

Is there any credible information that SMG2 is even in development?

there are two teams that handled the games. The team that made Phantom Hourglass is about 10 people  and the team that made Zelda TP was way bigger than that

as a huge Zelda fan, i hope the Zelda Wii game came before another mario game.

An actual "Galaxy 2?" No, but another Mario platformer? Seems to have been confirmed. Maybe just that the team is back at work.

I didn't say anything about being in a hurry. I don't expect them to rush either game, I just feel that a SMG2 would have less hurdles to deal with.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see both games released close to each other. After all, we did get MP3, SMG, SSBB and MKWii all within an eight month time span.
