Forums - General - Nurse suspended for prayer offer

Stupidly ridiculous. People our trying to accept everyone around them yet religious people are very often rejected, especially Christans at that.

Does this mean I'm allowed to complain if somebody didn't offer to pray for me?

If it was Islam or Buddhism or anything else it would be OK. If someone did indeed want to help then the person is criticized. You know Nero did the same thing. The lack of moral standards for this generation will lead to its downfall.

No it wouldn't have been ok. It would probably have been dealt with in the same way and people would be more likely to complain. You have no evidence that it would have been dealt with differently.

Also halo, thats what every generation says about moral standards. They said it in the 60's, the 70's, the 80's and the 90's. People have yet to realise that different moral standards are not lower moral standards, just because people don't follow the Christian morals as much any more does not mean that society will fall to pieces.

@cool48. Studies have shown that the most openly discriminated against group in America at least are atheists. Also you can't sue if somebody doesn't offer you a prayer because not offering a prayer is secular. Its what your government (and hence any national medical system) is.

I think she deserved it. Unfounded religious beliefs, like prayer, should not be mixed with your work.

What the hell?  You may not believe in the way they choose to do it, but what's wrong with other people wishing for your wellbeing?  They're not trying to convert you, they're just showing that they care for you.

Don't mind Wessie, he doesn't have any compassion for people.

I only have compassion for those who are realists, christians fall short.

SHE DID DESERVED IT. Keep your fantasys out of reality, and you should MOST CERTIANLY keep it out of your work.

Even though I wouldn't complain, just say no, people have a right to be offended by someone offering them a prayer. This might seem odd to someone not an atheist, but really some people think of it as demeaning.

the nurse apparently told radio 2 that she also hands out "faith cards" so its not her first discression, and i have to say that "faith cards" does cross the line and should not be allowed

When people are sick and dying, doing what you can to try to give them some sort of peace should not be looked down upon. If you are so offended by God, throw the faith card away and get over it.

Ehh, I wouldn't be offended if someone of a different faith tried to convert me on my death bed. I just don't see what's so insulting about it. I would think it would be nice to know someone cares enough to try and help me in whatever way they can.
